Last Epoch drops the Native Linux version, devs tell players to use Proton

You can complain, but it shows the power of open source. Even developer of closed software is behind developers of proton.

How many users Linux have? There are some calculations?

Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

why would microsoft do that? this helps microsoft. every game that doesn't run on linux is one less user leaving windows for linux.
I known MS. Microsoft can use position to decide, which solution could access kernel level. In this case, MS should disallow to implement similar solution on other platforms. But many companies told Linux is bad, because people owning it and one's computers. But. There exist some anit-cheat solution working on Linux. It depends on game vendor good will if Linux was supported.

Any popular game with PvP will always end up needing an anticheat at some point.
They're not mutually exclusive. Anti-cheat can theoretically be 100% compatible with Proton.

The chances of Riot Games doing that are essentially zero. But hey, there was zero chance these developers were going to make native Linux versions of these games anyway.

If it doesn't work in Proton because of anti-cheat, there is zero chance of the game working any other way on Linux. That doesn't seem like a knock on Proton; there's literally nothing more to be done except convince the company to support Linux.

And it's not like having a native Linux version is a guarantee it will work on Linux forever. See Rocket League, for example.

You can't play every game ever made in Proton, that's true. But you sure can play a lot of them. A much larger percentage than every console ever released, and macOS. It's second only to Windows.
You have right. Companies told they would not allow Linux users to play multiplayer games, because Linux users owning one's computers and operating systems. Simply: Linux distros are in most part 100% open source.

It could be great idea if notification noted how to disable it, or contain button to do this. In my opinion, better be scarred about what community can do. Remember: community overthrow the king, deny need for exclusive games for Linux and force Microsoft to do not block Linux with UEFI.

As I understand, there is a reason to do this kind of anticheat, because we cannot check all think. Some calculations must been done on client side, like collision checking, right? But why do not check, for example 1/10000 * number of players for 20 minutes and then roll other player set to check? There is not reason to check every player. If we ban some players, who cheat and there no option for player to check if they are checking, players will stop cheating.

What do you think?

Linux hits another all-time high for July 2024 according to Statcounter

In truth, people are simply unaware of Linux.. unaware of its gaming capabilities, its now ease of use.. etc.. They are also kept back by invasive technologies such as SecureBoot which usually prevents installation of Linux..
My Windows 11 enjoyer brother-in-law was truly having a blast playing games on my Linux PC... he was also in disbelief of how good it was performance wise... (I never asked/pushed him though, he simply turned the PC on to try it himself and now has a new view on Linux..)

If people knew how easy Linux has become and how amazing levels it has reached regarding gaming performance (that it can sometimes outperform Windows 11 in even AAA titles with proton overhead!!) they would certainly use it.

Distros such as Linux Mint, Nobara, CachyOS, have given Linux both the easy GUI/OOB-Gaming experience and also have kept the power of the Terminal as well so users can really enjoy using Linux (best of both worlds)... (at least this has been the case for me who migrated from Win 7 to Linux for 2 years now..).
That's truth. Many article/tests/benchmarks comparing playing on Linux and Windows shows, when user set high resolution or uses high-end hardware, but without up scaling or ray/path tracing, Linux annihilate Windows (in many cases). It's sad enabling ray/path-tracing or upscaling can change that image.

I remember what Windows/Mac users told me: "If Linux have had 10% of marketshare, Adobe will probably release Photoshop on it". So that's at half of way.

Proton Experimental gets fixes for Ubisoft Connect, Once Human, Burnout Paradise Remastered

Does Burnout: Paradise is supported on Linux officially? I own license and will play, but be sad if they ban me for playing on Linux. It is multiplayer game, after all!
