ScummVM 2.6 is incoming, devs asking for testing help of more retro games

going to have to wait for some kind of linux release candidate

too much trouble to fester through the dailybuild to help test & report Sanitarium...

./scummvm: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found (required by ./scummvm)

so yeah, need a build for older systems...

GOG Summer Sale now live with new releases from SEGA
6 Jun 2022 at 3:28 pm UTC

anyways youre often buying games and supporting the developer/publisher which released the game for dos & windows. neither of those support linux - at all, in no way.

sure, many of these games can be played in open source projects for modern os (linux) and dont require the involvement of GOG at all other than to download the game.

i would still rather have a DRM free version of old games
and i would still rather have steam linux proton help me play the games
while true i can also run my own Wine + DXVK installed and manage it all myself
i do most Dosbox games in my own installation folder for all Dosbox games.
i play most adventure games in Scummvm.

there are dozen ways the slice the pie, you just play whatever game you like in whichever way you like on whatever platform or OS you like.

The deb-get tool helps Ubuntu (and derivative distro) fans grab extra apps

hmmm... useful as it might be, i looked over the list of software and it seems very "office" centric and "winisms" and nothing particularly gaming, linux, or edge case usage

as is, i actively maintain my own /build/ folder and manually check for git releases and build them myself

but i can see the benefits for people if they dont have a ppa for some of those
off the top i can see discord doesnt have a PPA - get the deb from their website.
however vivaldi does have a ppa.
google earth pro also has a ppa.

yeah honestly nothing in the software list interests me in the slightest.

glad to see everyone has reported ET:Legacy being the maintained source port successor to the freeware open source original WolfET

Heroic Games Launcher for Epic and GOG on Linux and Steam Deck new Beta available
4 May 2022 at 11:27 am UTC

Quoting: fearnflavioOne note about the 'user credentials are no longer stored in plain text':
This was related only to GOG and it's NOT the username and password, but only the token generated after login and that was used to download the games
what on the release notes says this?
https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/releases/tag/v2.3.0-beta.1 [External Link]

i dont see any changes to this behavior reported here:
https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/issues/1020 [External Link]

i can see where the log parity [improvement] between legendary and gogdl could fix this
legendary does not report epic api tokens, gogdl does in the log output
https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/heroic-gogdl [External Link]

so, its not been fixed?

lets not forget that EAC used to work on linux natively prior to Epic buying it.

Steam Beta adds Vulkan shader processing
30 May 2020 at 5:52 pm UTC

Quoting: rkfgEdit: oh well, it says it right there, lol:
i dont know the benefit of using precompiled shaders honestly
and this makes me even more happy i disabled it.

steam needs to give the option to both
A) use precompiled shaders
and
B) OPT OUT of uploading/sharing

Roadwarden, an impressive text-adventure RPG has a new demo
30 May 2020 at 5:50 pm UTC

Quoting: 14This is one of those games that I think is so cool, I will probably buy it for the art factor whether I play it or not. I want to play it, but I know myself. I have lots of games to play.
thats why they have demos, try before you buy
