filsdHow do you guys install the latest nvidia driver?
I'm on ubuntu 14.04 and the the PPA Xorg Edgers bugs on installation. :/

In my case use manual installation .run package, using this steps

- Once downloaded driver (try uninstall (synaptic works for this) nvidia driver if stay installed, you must be have required dependencies installed before begins installation

NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-349.12.run*

*try save this file on documents user folder or main user directory, this more later easily search for file install

- Once in grub edit main entry dont recover entry (in rescatux push e key) must be appear

linux /vmlinuz-3.13.0-24-generic root=UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx ro quiet splash $vt_handoff

*x change for your hardware (dont touch this)

- and add this

linux /vmlinuz-3.13.0-24-generic root=UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx ro quiet splash text $vt_handoff

- after this boot with cntrl key + x (in rescatux)

- after this you must be appear in text mode and appear space for login (here must be entry login data: user - pass)

- after this use sudo apt search nouveau

- and appears xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

- and now use this sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

- after this apt ask if you want remove this package

- once removed go to modprobe.d folder

cd /etc/modprobe.d

- after this use nano for edit blacklist.conf

sudo nano blacklist.conf

- in last line of this text add this

blacklist nouveau

- after this save changes (cntrl key + o) and exit after this (cntrl key + x)

- once stay this step use this command

sudo update-initramfs -u

- once make this step reboot machine

- and now in grub edit again main entry

linux /vmlinuz-3.13.0-24-generic root=UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx ro quiet splash $vt_handoff

- if appears good mint logo must be appear more bigger and fonts too
and stay in text mode and appear space for login (here must be entry login data: user - pass)

- once login search go to folder when save nvidia driver installer if stay on documents user folder

- use this command

cd Documents

- after this run nvidia installer (remind you must be installed dependencies before begins this)

sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-349.12.run

- and now begins process installation, if ask for dkms support (push in no)

- when stay finish install, installer ask for install 32bit compatilibity libraries push yes

- after this appears message if you want nvidia configure x and push yes

- after installer finish and proceed to reboot and entry normally without edit main entry in grub*

*only need edit if text change stay, however if you try edit entry and dont appear text, boot stay in normal state

This method works in my case with mint 17 32bits and mint 17 64bits

mrdeathjrAt simple seek in wine, performance seems very similar with 346.47, however in assasins creed brotherhood single player appears gains around 5fps depending scene

Are you using CSMT in that Wine? It seems to run so well for a GT 630 and Intel G3220. I've seen some other videos from you, great work :-)

Thanks

No i using only wine vanilla, in my case still waiting CSMT too but when stay in mainline if all continues like as now as many chances to see in this year (CSMT are proposed for wine 1.8 release criteria)

The Wine Development Release 1.7.39 Is Now Available

mrdeathjrStrange in my case overlay works since 1.7.38, nvidia drivers stay correctly installed (direct rendering stay enable???) something more in my case use xfce
“glxinfo|grep "direct rendering"” says "Yes", and I’m also using Xfce (with or without Compton: no change).

Are you playing in a fresh wine prefix with nothing installed or configured? I see on this guide that the person is installing some fonts, vcrun2005, physx and d3dx9. Also they are configuring the direct draw renderer, video memory size and offscreen rendering mode. (I haven’t tried all of this yet.)

Also something I need to do is launch steam with -no-dwrite or I’m not seeing any text.

PS: Steam overlay definitely not working, neither in Mirror’s Edge nor in Burnout Paradise.

Very strange, gamersonlinux guide are very detailed

In my case only install apps provided for steam (vrious as your said physx (regular and legacy for older games*), directxjun2010, vc redistributables (2005sp1,2008sp1,2010sp1), net framework 2.0sp2, net framework 3.5sp1 and net framework 4.0

*In special cases like as medal of honor airborne is needed install first physx 7 and after physx legacy and at least regular physx (some cases need some fix like as physx on infernal game)

Video memory size can be adjusted in wine regedit with your vga memory quantity (in my case 2048mb)

In steam no-dwrite must be works for most cases, this is more strange in your case, in my case some time ago put video about how to entry without see characters

However if you install wine using ppa (i only install wine1.7:i386) them install something things like fonts-droid, fonts-liberation, binfmt-support, fonts-horai-umefont, fonts-unfonts-core, ttf-ms-corefonts-installer, fonts-wqy-microhei

throghThe GOG-version of "Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb" is not working with WINE 1.7.39. Especially not the version from PlayOnLinux from my testings. I just even have problems with the menu and much objects are not shown at all. Can't even start a new game. So I would not say the game is working well with 1.7.39!

In my case works (retail version), however i use only wine vanilla (1.7.39)

Nvidia Drivers 346.47
Linux Mint 17 XFCE (No Desktop Compositor) Edition 64Bit - Kernel 3.18.0.31

mrdeathjrHi in my case works very good many places above 35fps to 45fps (sometimes 59fps)

I leave this examples using wine 1.7.39 (vanilla) with nvidia drivers 346.47
Eh, strange :-| … I have more powerful hardware (i5 / GTX 660), same nvidia driver. I tried a few things again but it’s still slow. And the Steam overlay does not work so I can’t see the exact FPS.

Strange in my case overlay works since 1.7.38, nvidia drivers stay correctly installed (direct rendering stay enable???) something more in my case use xfce (before using kde but have fps loss, around 20 to 30% depending game)

However this situation can happen still using same wine, distribution, drivers and desktop enviroment

stanMirror’s Edge is still running at ~15 FPS even with Physx disabled and all settings on low.

In Burnout Paradise, the car drivers and motorcycle driver’s head are still missing + sometimes big artifacts in the junkyard (game still works great otherwise).

Both issues are also present in wine-staging 1.7.38.
