Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Quoting: GuestHow is Tekken 7 running for you guys? For me it has pretty bad performance which is a shame for a fighting game, sits around 40-50fps most of the time, and I don't think I'm hardware bound because gpu and cpu usage still seem low and lowering settings does nothing either

Funny enough though, Killer Instinct (Which I think is a better fighting game anyway) fully works maxed out at 1080p using Proton, and its not even on the short list of games they're providing support for like Tekken 7 is.. And even more so, it's published by Microsoft and no doubt VERY heavily built on DirectX

Yet Tekken 7 uses Unreal Engine 4, also tried Snake Pass another UE4 game and performance seemed worse then last time I tried it using Lutris+DXVK and Wine, same goes for Grip which also ran fine using standard wine and DXVK... Yet on Proton it literally was going down to 6fps in-game

Seem to be having some bad luck with UE4 games so far, which I find surprising

Edit: Tested various other games as well, including Super Bomberman R (which seems to work flawlessly from the short time I spent on it).. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy sadly crashes after I press A on the "Press A to continue" screen, Quake Champions crashes straight after the initial screen, Resident Evil REmake just shows black screen (expected this one due to lack of WMP9 which is required in winetricks for it to work properly)... Duck Game doesn't load and just insta-crashes (again expected, as Duck Game requires XNA which can be installed using winetricks in normal wine)

Plan on doing alot more testing.. But more importantly I hope mrdeathdj is doing some testing of his own xD
Hi

I try testing tekken 7 but is so expensive* (dont have enough money)

*Normally bandai namco - tecmo koei is expensive games

Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming
24 Aug 2018 at 3:31 pm UTC Likes: 1

My thoughts about steam play for now in my case is this:

-audio system work than i expected

-compatibility is high

-input work good in most cases

For now stay very busy in transition (backup, restore, download, testing)

However needs put attention with size of each game prefix created around 700mb because with 100 titles this could be size around 70gbs

In problems have:

-cinematics (avi, mpeg, wmv in tests) curiously andrew eikum
talks about gstreamer, this could be proper fix

-lack of proper .net support (mainly in game launchers and
config apps)

-lack of easily option for configure each game prefix aka
winecfg because many games works better in virtual desktop,
others works better without csmt, others works better without
esync (this is for many cores cpu case ryzen)

For now is recommended have wine staging on system (in my case staging and vanilla i386 compiled) for this titles dont stay on steam and for some problems listed before

And almost forget if anyone ask for when appears tests only can say this for now

NVIDIA have officially announced the GeForce RTX 2000 series of GPUs, launching September
21 Aug 2018 at 12:02 pm UTC

Quoting: TheRiddickYeah except there are no other real options, at least when you go past 1060GTX performance level!!!!!

When there is no alternatives then boycotts are VERY hard to do, your asking people to accept a more expensive and MUCH slower option (Vega)!!!!
Without forget polaris aka RX 480/RX 580 consume too much (around 180 to 200w) compared GTX 1060 with only 120w

Amd need seriously 7nm on gpus for improve consume

Back to RTX only wait to see nvidia said about RTX 2070 have a bit better performance than titan xp and other rumors around improvements on vulkan

However if have similar performance or a bit better of titan xp will be awesome because RTX 2070 only have 2304 shaders vs 3840 shaders of titan xp

Quoting: GuestI'd use controller for both bayonetta and vanquish myself, prehaps the buggy mouse behaviour wouldn't be a problem with a controller instead?

Thanks for mentioning Bayonetta, I'd love to play that on Linux even more-so then Vanquish.. Looks like I'm gonna have to free up some space on the ole hard drive and take these games for a spin ^^

Have you tried DMC HD Collection yet? That's another game on my top-list of games I'd love to play on Linux!

Oh and btw, you should be able to delete that double post yourself now, I think GOL added that feature a couple months back now (the big cross (X) symbol next to Edit)

Double edit: agree, DXVK is making massive progress, as with wine.. Both those things are just such great examples of fantastic software development, I take my hat off to the people who make the software
Yeah various games with controller works without issues

But with who playing with keyboard still affected

Respect dmc hd collection dont run in last test

However maybe can try in future

And thanks for delete tip

Seeing quite a few other games in your tests I have interest in too like Vanquish

Great work as always mrdeathjr :)
Yeah DXVK progress is impressive

Vanquish runs but mouse behavior :><: still be a pain in ass without forget save settings problem (bayonetta too)

Almost forget thanks
