Total War: WARHAMMER III 2.0 out with Immortal Empires, Linux update 'as soon as possible'

Quoting: ElectricPrism
Quoting: ElamanOpiskelijaThe hype is real. I sincerely hope this update turns around the initial reception of the game, this is one of the last remaining "big" games that still maintain a native build.
If it does, I hope to hear a signal from within the community -- I've held off but would welcome a change of tides, fingers crossed but expectations in check.
If we accept the Steam players as a signal, the hype certainly is real. This is right now one of the most played games on Steam, and it seems that the player count is not falling down as quickly as Stray (if at all). Reviews are also turning around quite quickly with statements such as "best strategy game ever made".

It made me look up and inform myself on what "Mortal Empires" even is, and I must admit it's pretty crazy and ambitious idea. So yes, if you have the money, and the thousands of hours of free time, one can absolutely live in this game for the next 4 years.

Poop emoji, my man. It's the little things like this, that make me a patron.

But wouldn't patreonage be better support than buying a Steam Deck to keep you in business?

Quoting: LungDragoTried to run the Proton version and well, it doesn't really work for me sadly. The load into the Immortal Empires campaign takes ages (and I just killed my Windows install to make room on my SDD for this, hah) and then either crashes or loads in successfully but crashes after I do a few actions on the campaign map. I hear the native version is much better performance-wise but crucially AFAIK, there is no crossplay between it and Windows, which makes the native version useless to me.
Oh well... on the bright side, your profile photo reminds me that Heroes3 has still a big community, all kinds of organized leagues and g-damnn HOT SEAT mode.

Dangerously inflicting FOMO on the rest of us who are still on the Steam Deck waiting queue!

Get a couple treats in the new Linux & Thrills bundle on Steam

The price of the ASCII RPG is the problem here. I think most people would have happily bought a bundle containing the other games.

There's a new bundle with some Paradox Interactive titles

Planetfall may be cheap on price, but it is very expensive in playtime hours. Be very afraid...

Valve dev understandably not happy about glibc breaking Easy Anti-Cheat on Linux

GlibC is the reason why I haven't used Fedora for games, in my case I believe it were some Feral launchers which were not working even with the Steam Flatpak (I guess it doesn't matter, if what fails is the game launcher).

Anyway when I looked into the reason behind the issue... yes, it is hard to blame the distro nor GlibC.
Humans will invent general artificial intelligence, and maybe go to Mars, but, if and when that happens, games will still be using 32 bit libraries and running on x86.

Tempest Rising looks like the RTS I've been waiting for

Thanks Liam, you are a kind of a strange dealer but you just keep bringing up games that I will potentially get hooked on.

To be fair, the Command and Conquer remaster was already quite good, and remains the most popular of the series today, at least on Steam. There's also the aspect of their collaboration with OpenRA, which is something that sets a positive precedent for open source and RTS both.

This game has a very high bar to pass.
