Quoting: elmapulhave we checked the size and weight of that thing? if linus from linus tech tips complained that his hand were too small to press some buttons with confort, imagine that thing in the hands of a kid! It's just a portable gaming PC, you can connect any controller and put the deck on the table or connect it to a tv. If the grip is too big for a kid, it doesn't mean the device is useless. Anyway lots of teens are pretty big I'd say. ;-)
i think this device might not be apropriate for kids, it may not be targeted at it either, so its not only not gonna direct compete with an switch, but will be too much affected by the lack of fortinite.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI have a question slightly to the side of the discussion so far:One of my kids plays it on a gaming pc (through GFN), while the other plays it on switch. Both are enjoying the game. So I'd say yes.
OK, so Fortnite is a ridiculously popular game. But is it the kind of game people would be likely to play on a thing like a Steam Deck?

Quoting: nitro322KDE 4 was very rough, but by 5 KDE's been quite solid again. Heck, even by around 4.4/4.5 it was at least usable again, with steady polish and enhancements since then. Unless you just have a strong preference for the style or workflow of another particular desktop, I think you'll be happy with what you see in modern KDE.I've been using xfce for the last few years, but I don't have strong feelings for or against any desktop, so I'll gladly test the new kde on the deck. :-)

I used and loved KDE 2 and 3, but version 4 pushed me towards other DEs. It will be interesting to revisit it thanks to SteamDesk.
[edit] found some old screenshot ;-)
[edit2] and here's KDE 2

> Epic would be happy to put Fortnite on Steam. We wouldn't be happy to give Steam 20-30% of its revenue for the privilege.
Fortnite is F2P, so...
Yes, I know there are in-app purchases, but I'm pretty sure* there's a way to route them away from steam.
When there's a will, there's a way. Clearly there is no will here.
And it's no wonder, epic has been trying hard (and failing miserably) to compete with steam and putting their flagship product on steam would be like an ultimate surrender. Of course he won't admit it, but then why even say that they "would be happy to put Fortnite on Steam"?
All in all I am inclined to think that his whole communication is just slithering between lies and half-truths.
(*) I may be confidently wrong here ;-)

You CAN pay for individual games and play them even if you don't have the subscription.
Or you CAN just play the free games without the subscription or buying anything.
So nobody MADE anyone buy anything, much less "on top of" anything else.

Quoting: EikeWell, if you could elaborate on your "no they didn't"? Google Stadia is a service you can pay for (AFAIR there's a free base service) and where you need to buy games to play them (there's some free games included, especially in higher tiers). So what's wrong with "they made you pay for each game on top of paying for the steaming service"? You can also get free games on Steam, but it's still a service where you (usually) pay for your games...You CAN pay for a subscription and have access to all the PRO games.

GFN, by comparison, has constant problems with logging in to my steam account and even if it succeeds, it can sometimes close unexpectedly after a few minutes.

Quoting: pmadzikI tried it (in the free month), but the quality was terrible, although it may be the specificity of my internet or dedicated data centers for my country (Poland).I got stadia right after it became available in Poland (Dec 2020) and never had connection or quality problems (on fiber connection from orange).

Stadia has the best tech, but bad marketing and not-so-good business model. I just hope that they have an exit plan that does not leave customers in the lurch.

Quoting: slaapliedjeWell, it's probably some time in March. I've been on vacation when the reservation started, I set the alarm but missed it, being on a noisy promenade at the time. Realised 10-15 minutes later that it was past due, I did my best to get the reservation, but had to re-do the checkout three or four times. So, paradoxically, maybe (hopefully) I was still pretty early, given that the system was clogged in the beginning. :huh:Quoting: pb"Your expected order availability: Q1 2022"Lucky! Mine says Q2 2022 (initially said Q1, before they had to delay it over the holidays). I got mine within the first 25 min? The site was being hammered and I had to keep trying. Probably what I get for being paranoid and never saving my CC info anywhere...
Let's gooo!
