Finally playing through Rise of the Tomb Raider, after installing that additional 8GB I bought because of this game's recommended specs. ;-)

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI wonder WHY this project is not backed by Valve...I would guess getting *new* games to work on SteamOS has a priority over the backlog. But I agree they should care more about it, people switching to Linux will definitely look at what percentage of their whole library is supported, and that includes older titles.
I mean, A LOT of the legacy steam games are DX9 and this will improve performance.

Quoting: PhlebiacTell Tale Games (...) tend to run well in Wine.I tried The Walking Dead on SteamOS and the controller didn't work, also the mouse cursor disappeared right after the menu loaded. So I wouldn't say it's playable, let alone running well. But it did work for me some years ago on the steam client installed with wine (I completed the first chapter).

I hope it's not Feral announcing they will only be making Mac ports from now on, because Linux has got Proton. :P But seriously, I think it will be some kind of announcement in relation to the recent developments, maybe they got a proposal from Valve to do SteamPlay certification / fixes and they will handle entire catalogues of big AAA studios? On the other hand, they wouldn't mention Mac if it was about SteamPlay, would they. Hm...

Quoting: muntdefemsAs for the Electioneering DLC, they must've forgotten to add the icon to the store page, as it is indeed available for Linux since earlier this month:That's good to know, thanks. Though I checked steamdb before posting and there's no tux icon there either: https://steamdb.info/app/483450/ [External Link] but I suppose it may be like with Payday 2 dlcs - no tux icon but still work.

I wonder where the change of heart is coming from, after not releasing the last two dlc for Democracy 3 for Linux.

Steam now has a form of platform-specific wishlisting, to help developers see demand

Quoting: tuxdeluxIn hindsight, with the knowledge of Valve's Steam Play, this seems like a very clever marketing ploy. Six months before they release an emulator, that allows buying windows-only games, they were getting people to add windows-only games to their wishlists.Yeah, too bad that last month I deleted most of the windows-only games I added earlier, bashing myself for cluttering the wishlist with games I can't play. :D

Quoting: GuestIt's a subtle point that your own post misses: we most definitely would have reached here without Valve. It's missing because I don't think it's true. I'd argue that we weren't at this point two weeks ago and that we wouldn't be for a long, long time. I have 6k games in my steam library, over half of them only have Windows version (I got them through bundles etc.). Over the last five years I played maybe three or four (sic!) of these games. All the tools were there: wine, crossover (which I bought and only ever used to play gog version of The Witcher), lutris, recently dxvk etc. etc. - but it was immensely impractical and thus for me too much of a bother. Not to mention that I'm mostly gaming on SteamOS with my kids and there was literally no way to play Windows games on SteamOS. Now? For the last week+ I've been playing dozens of Windows games which I've been long wanting to play - nothing spectacular, mostly puzzle games that were reportedly working fine with wine, but required starting a "wined" version of steam. Kids have been playing the LEGO and Sonic games, with controllers, out of the box... *This* is huge. The simple fact that one of the biggest players in the gaming market came, took all the existing tools and put them to a proper use. Yes, all these tools were there and lots of people put great effort into making them work - and for that they deserve full credit. But tools are always only tools, they don't make great things by themselves.

crossover codeweavers, as well as contributing to many other projects, to make things happen. I won't maintain that they did more than the others, but I think it's safe to say we wouldn't reach the current point without collaboration at least partly inspired by Valve.

Quoting: GuestBut, while Valve can play a part, I always point out that Valve never did so much alone, but are standing on the backs of giants: wine, AMD (opening up drivers, donating Mantle to Khronos, and more), radv, Intel (their drivers always were open), nvidia (drivers and long time OpenGL support), Unity3D (engine support before Steam was even thought to be on GNU/Linux), and of course TTimo and iD Software. And more. You seem to hold it against them, but it's the very principle of open source development. They didn't do anything stupid like forking the software, developing it themselves and trying to make the original obsolete. No, for the last two years they've been working head to head with
