Linux overtakes macOS users on Steam thanks to Steam Deck
2 Aug 2023 at 3:10 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: LiamA pretty massive increase and the biggest in a single month for years. So why? Well, considering Valve just recently had a huge sale on the Steam Deck, it's probably not all that surprising. A lot of people over the last month will have been playing with their Steam Deck that ships with SteamOS Linux.
But Liam can that really be the reason, I might be wrong but I thought you wouldn't get surveyed on the Deck for the initial few months or so?
Also I got a Deck as well and I wasnt (at least actively) surveyed 🤔

Well anyway nice news though I expect a drop next month as well, it will be interesting to see if it swings back to "normal" or if it can at least keep parts of that share.

HDR and Colour Management patches for Steam Deck + AMD GPUs under review
24 Apr 2023 at 2:34 pm UTC

Quoting: TheRiddickBetter late then never. Would be nice if NVIDIA added better support in their drivers for 10bit(30bpc) and HDR options.
To be fair FireFox doesnt even have HDR support on Windows. Would be nice if it gets a push once Linux has HDR support. (maybe even before Chromium get's it under Linux?)

Europa Universalis IV: Domination and free update out now
20 Apr 2023 at 1:51 pm UTC

I am really tempted to pick it up, but I will wait for a sale or get it once I plan on playing one of the nations with a reworked mission tree.
And yes I really needed some time to get in to it, but i was worth it.
I would say EU4 is one of the best paradox games if not the best.
And yes even after 200h I still learnt a lot of new stuff and even after 0,5kh I still have barely played past the age of reformation.

Wayland driver for Wine is getting closer
28 Feb 2023 at 2:00 pm UTC

Quoting: michaldybczakMy main issue now is with shutdown, which takes a long time, or it freezes. I'm not sure if it has something to do with Wayland, but prior to Plasma 5.27 update on X11, all was fine. However, it may be some issue on my computer.
A known KDE issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445449#c36 [External Link]
I see you are using Manjaro, all known issues are mentioned below [External Link] the Updatenews Forum Posts togehter with solutions, e.g. installinh sddm-git in this case.

Fall in love with your little family in Tiny Life, a pixel-art The Sims
21 Dec 2022 at 6:02 pm UTC

Really neat game, unfortunately they kinda messed up/politicized the german translation, not sure if on purpose or by accident.
Anyway I will definitely check it out again this Winter, I would love to see Sims getting some competition in the long run!

Steam Deck pushed Linux to the highest share on Steam in years
2 Nov 2022 at 12:08 pm UTC

It's also interesting to see that german continues to increase its Linux share, currently at 3.18% with Russian only at 1.96%.
@Liam might be time to include it in the Steam Tracker, since it continues to outperform Russian, Spanish and Simplified Chinese on Linux.

KDE Plasma 5.26 is out now
20 Oct 2022 at 1:18 pm UTC

Quoting: officerniceDoes anybody know of an alternative to something like Big Screen Mode? I have not tried it since I use XFCE, but I am putting up a raspberry pi soon. I would like some kind of program akin to what Big Screen Mode does, but I just want to be able add the applications I WANT, not what KDE detects.
Not sure, but you can probably force KDE to use what you want or to just use manual selections.
If not maybe you can check if there is already an issue about it.

There are also some promising scaling changes for Wayland(whether the application or Wayland scales the window to prevent drawing of blurry windows).
Might bring me finally to Wayland.

Linux user share on Steam continues the slow climb, SteamOS rises

Quoting: LamdarerCould be that Arch actually dominates with other derivatives like Endevour etc on the other side there is also Linux Mint or POP!_OS which are Ubuntu Based as well.
Arch derivates have their own /etc/os-release (or whatever) and don't appear as Arch.
Exactly, even though one could argue that e.g. Endevour is closer to Arch than Ubuntu LTS to non LTS etc (not to mention Mint), and with ~40% other I would be very carefully with statements about which Linux Distro is "the most widely used"(even more so when you consider the other factors I mentioned), still it is a good indicator in general and I would love to see developers adding "Most modern Distros", "most Ubuntu 22.x. and Arch based Distros" or "ubuntu or SteamOS or Simular" to the System requirements section instead of just Ubuntu.
