Linux Game Of The Year Awards Voting Open

It's also quite common to have categories that celebrates artistic elements of the game, like "best artwork", "best voice actors", and so forth. Those categories may very likely contain nominations from both major distributors, indies and oss.

Quoting: frostworkwould have voted for openmw as best oss game, but stk ist great too :}We need more categories than that. I think we should follow the common practise and have categories based on properties of the game, type "best multi-player game", "best RPG", "best strategy game", "shooter of the year" and so forth, as well as the suggested "open source of the year". But an open-source game could and should also potentially be nominated in other categories, if they are good enough. I just think it is very right of us Linux peeps to have a dedicated OSS category. They deserve that spotlight.
for the categories:
imho it would be nice if you would split the categories for the next award into
- oss
- AAA
- indie (closed)

Editorial: The First Failed Kickstarter Projects Of 2015

The way the Kickstarter projects are presented, with investment "levels" that involves special editions of the final product or their name in the credits roll and so forth, it really is debatable whether or not one is just investing in an idea. Sure, that's what the initiative takers can hide behind when things go wrong but really, Kickstarter need to stop presenting the projects the way they do if that argument should hold any moral water.

"What are your gamepad experiences?" -> I got a Logitech F710 and it works perfectly out of the box, rumble included. And it's wireless.
It's got two mode settings, "X"(-box) or "O" (whatever O stands for) and I use it on Xbox setting.

Braveland Wizard, The Second Braveland Strategy Game Now On Linux, Has Issues

That said, people should really stop caring much about the user "reviews". That's the real issue here - people (and therefore, devs/publishers) tend to put a lot more into those amateur posts than really there are any reason to do.

Quoting: NyamiouThis blog post should not exist, you are ruining their chances to sell a game which may be perfectly good for people who like that kind of games based on only one bad review on Steam. It's not the medias responsibility to feed the developers with customers or protect them from poor sales. It's the developers responsibility to do the right thing, and medias responsibility to say so when they don't.

My vote went to Borderlands 2. There's simply no game I've enjoyed more both in regards to entertainment and sheer playtime.
But man, how I wish there were categories. It pains me to ignore fantastic releases like Xcom:EU, Transistor and Geometry Wars 3. I'd love to give them my vote within each of their categories.

But as Liam says, next year we'll do things a bit more according to the book. It's a nice start, this!

Quoting: tadzikBoth "Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall" and "Dragonfall" are on the list, seems like a bug :)Yeah the list could use some grooming both in regards to length, relevance and duplicates before becoming a public vote list.

Quoting: coryrj19951GTA V, as it is releasing in early 2015, and still hasn't confirmed even windows on the Steam page.If it turns out to be this, I will officially faint. That would be *THE* bomb of the decade.

I planned on waiting for a price drop, but it seems I need this game.

I share the authors opinion about Unity. Based on pure experience it's ironic that the most platform independent framework should also be behind the buggiest releases for Linux. Whenever I hear something is built on Unity I halt the purchase until I've read the Steam forums carefully and get confirmed it's actually working as intended on Linux.
Also, for some reason, the visual output just isn't up to par with the other serious competitors out there (like Unreal, to name but one obvious example).
