Nice video, good work indeed!

But surely that open Sonic game can't possibly be legal?

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Released On Steam For Linux

Quoting: natewardawgI've found the user ratings to be pretty useful myself as long as you remember the target audience of the game. For instance, if you hate Hidden Object games a rating of Overwhelmingly Positive probably means the game will not be very fun for you,
This we agree with, but that goes for real reviews too. They have to be seen from that context. For example, I hate racing simulators. So, not even a simulator with a metascore of 95 would be of interest to me.

Quoting: natewardawgbut if you love Hidden Object games, then Very Positive or higher probably means you'll really like the game.
And this is where we disagree.
If you take a few minutes and have a look at some random games on Steam, you will find that an overwhelming majority of them are summarised as "very positive" or better. "Overwhelming" to such an extent that it loses all value as a guideline, unless you happen to be of the opinion that 9/10 released today are very good, and in that case one does not need any reviews anyway.

I mean, what I describe here is not just personal opinion, it's based on observation. I urge those of you who don't believe what I am saying here to do the following:

1. Open your Steam client and find some games in your library you'd rate as mediocre at best, head to their store page and check their user rating summary. Just do it.

2. Then, go to a metascore site (metacritic or gamerankings) and look up the title in question.

Then finally get yourself a cup of coffee, sit back and reflect for a while on your observations. :)

"It has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, so it looks like it's a good hit!" -> by that logic practically every single game on Steam is a good hit. Seriously, the game have to be *broken* for it to accumulate a "mostly negative" rating.

But the actual reviews are good for this game, so in this case we indeed got a winner! :)

7 Days To Die, A Sandbox Zombie Survival Game Finally Arrives On Linux

Never have I been more baffled before than observing this craving of testing unfinished code.

People even PAY to beta test and have their moment of first impressions from a finished game taken from them? Have the world gone completely mad, or is it me there is something wrong with?

Quoting: kozecBS. 7dtd was supposed to be released for linux ~year ago and there were nothing said about early access. They joined it long after kickstarter and basicaly took dump on heads of their suppporters.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not even out for Windows yet? There's not a single review on either gamerankings nor metacritic, and it's only on "Early Access" on Steam.

I mean, sure, so they promised to be done with the game a year ago (or whatever) but you guys make it sound like it's just the Linux version we talk about here, when in fact no version for any platform is properly released yet.

But it's not even released yet? Why should we care if they are not done with the Linux port yet?

This "Early Access" program has really screwed up a lot of things in gamers heads.

Quoting: fedsoAspyr is indeed doing a great job! However I hope Beyond Earth is not as bad as user reviews seem to show or their sales could be not that good.
My advice is; Ignore user reviews. It's got a metascore of around 80 based on 46 reviews. That is pretty darn good.

Oooh Aspyr! That's a relief. I was worried this was a Unity game at first. The game looks like great fun. Will it be released for Linux as well from day one?

EDIT: I see the earlier games in the franchise has collected excellent metascores. Sold!
