Quoting: kftXBetween CrossCode and Sea of Stars, I kinda lost of faith in SNES-inspired indie RPGs.
What’s up with Sea of Stars? I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but I thought it might be good.

Quoting: slavezeoMaybe it's just me but I don't like the GOG Galaxy client. The social stuff is a mess and all over the place with all the platforms it supports. Same with games, I don't care that I can play a game on my xbox. I just wanting to see my GoG games on my Linux box. SO I'm not really hurt its not native for linux. I do love heroic though.
Absolutely. I’ve used Galaxy before and it was one of the worst apps I’ve ever seen.
Heroic, Bottles or even Mini Galaxy depending on what you need, are all much better experiences anyway.

90s styled Old School Rally hits Early Access on July 19

Of all these rally games coming along, I really hope at least one takes after the dos era games like Rally Championship, Network Q RAC Rally, etc.

I love Sega Rally as much as the next person, but 10 minutes later when you’ve finished the stage 3 times there’s little left to stay interested.

I love GDQ but for the last several years I’ve only been able to go back and watch the VODs, because I always forget when it’s happening.

I liked Before The Storm. I didn’t like LiS1 though, I got bored really quickly with it.

I didn’t play LiS2, but I watched my partner play it. It was good. I liked the two brothers.

I thought Shadow of Chernobyl was awesome. Very memorable game even though I didn’t finish it.

I didn’t really like the Metro games, but I read Metro 2033 first and in my experience when you love a book no adaptations live up to what you expect.

Vampire Survivors: Operation Guns is a Contra collab DLC releasing May 9th

Quoting: PenglingI find this really interesting, thanks for posting it.

Reason being, Contra became Probotector (and sometimes Gryzor) in PAL territories because of strict media censorship in Germany, and it's not often that something resulting from that gets considered superior. (I followed the import scene a lot as a youngster, so I always knew about the existence of both "branches".)
It’s a bit worn out as I wear this almost daily under my corporate attire.

And yes, my confusion in the 90s I found out all about the censorship issue.
There was an unlock Probotector character in Contra 4. But you had to first complete the game, and then they weren’t available in the normal game mode anyway.

Just a long rant about my personal experience with Contra.

I grew up playing a little Mega Drive game called Probotector.
I even had two different sega magazines (a UK and an AU one) with walkthroughs of the game that I’d read and look at the screenshots just because I thought the game was so cool. Especially with Robotech being aired here at the time and similarities with the ride armour and the robots.

(In 2024 I still wear a tank top with the red and blue robots from the game posing on it, and have similar artwork on card stock)

In the late 90s when I got into emulation, I found out that game was known as Contra Hard Corps in the United States, featuring generic Rambo Commando ripoffs. Any further Probotector was a dumb pipe dream.

I know Contra is the same game, but it removes the cool factor. I can go back and emulate Super Probotector on snes, Probotector II on nes, etc.
But whenever something like this comes along now it just breaks my heart how cool it could have been.

Quoting: GuestThen again I am maybe the only person who still thinks the original fat Xbox controller was the most comfortable one ever made.
(Had to look it up...)

This... THING?
Yep, somehow that was a near perfect fit for me. I'm not even sure how or why, and everyone probably rightfully thinks I am crazy.
Never, I only have small hands and I still think this is the most comfortable controller ever.

I have the Hyperkin version that they remade for PCs in 2019 (I think).
But in Linux it keeps switching off and back on every 30 settings unless steam is running. Apparently whatever driver in the kernel runs gamepads has never been fixed and requires the application to poll the controller twice a minute, which steam does..
