The situation of 'RUINER' coming to Linux is so very strange, developers now asking for requests

Quoting: ShmerlThis sounds unprofessional to me.
No, not really. Deadline is nearing, and as always there are lots of things to be done, and managers are starting to look for things to cut to meet the deadline. Does not necessarily mean that Linux is canceled, but that it has been reduced in priority in favor of some contractual obligations they need to meet.

It's no insider knowledge or anything, just my experience with how software projects tend to work.

Valve put the Steam Controller and Steam Link on a big sale again
31 August 2017 at 7:34 pm UTC

I did get a Steam Link the last time it went on sale. And I am not using it.

First of all, you want wired network, or really high quality wireless. And even then it is recommended to have either the PC or the Steam Link wired.

I got it to work mostly smoothly over wireless + wired configuration, but some random interference would still cause a latency spike once in a while. Which always seem to happen at the worst possible moment.

The video quality itself is very good. And I didn't notice much performance degradation in games either. Which was surprising, because my graphics card was already struggling. It seems to be more CPU bound, at least with software encoding, and I do have a decent CPU.

Latency itself is not too bad, but it is there, and it is noticeable. Not much of a problem for sofa gaming with a controller, but for competitive or any twitch reflex gaming it's a no go. For example I had problems playing Race the Sun, as I struggled to time the maneuvers to avoid obstacles.

But the real deal breaker for me was very limited peripheral support. Namely no wheel and pedals. There is a third party application that claims to enable that, but the reviews on Steam were largely negative, so I didn't bother.

It is nice piece of technology, and can be useful if you have the right setup. But make sure that you know what you are getting.

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour adds full split-screen support for local play, Steam Controller now works properly
29 August 2017 at 6:45 am UTC

Serious Sam games tend to have really good split-screen multiplayer. Playing the original Serious Sam TFE with 4 players on one screen was a bit low resolution, but amazing experience nonetheless. And now they have VR and "flat" players playing together. Makes one think that these guys actually know their shit. :)

Yes, I know that Bogus Detour is by another team.

0.3 FPS? No problem, I'll just get one of those Vega cards, and I am sure it will be just fine.

Steam now has over 3,500 games for Linux, with GOG having over 700

Quoting: wolfyrionThe biggest surprise that I had with GOG is when I discovered that is a Cypriot based company :D ...

I could have sworn they are from Poland.

But yeah, life has never been so good as a Linux user. Really there is nothing I cannot do on Linux either for work or leisure. I don't even need to have Wine installed anymore. It's almost too easy.

AMD RX Vega GPUs released along with a new AMDGPU-PRO Driver
14 August 2017 at 5:24 pm UTC

I intended to buy an RX 580, but they are completely sold out, or sold at prices not much lower than Vega. So I will get Vega instead. But I think I will wait for 56, because 64 seems overpowered for what I need.

Available in Denmark for about €540, which is quite reasonable. https://www.komplett.dk/kampagne/41019/amd-vega

Has Feral actually said that we are not getting Bioshock Remastered?
