What do non-sensible ways look like?

For example, Nexus Mods won't make you verify your age if your account is older than 10 years which is better than making all UK users do it to access adult content like other sites have done.

The problem is as usual: parenting.

While I agree with you, the UK government like many other governments favor short term solutions to fix the symptom rather than doing the hard work of fixing the underlying causes.

Many parents don't have the skills, understanding or (most importantly) time to effectively keep their children safe online. Governments could help to fix the skills and understanding problem by providing free classes for parents, but they also need to have the time to be able to monitor what their children are doing online. I know parents who have to work more than one job to make ends meet, resulting in their children being left unsupervised at home. This could be fixed by governments and have wider societal benefits.

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box now! ;)

At least Nexus Mods seems to have implemented the law in a sensible way compared to other sites.

It's not quite the same, but Isonzo is a good alternative to BF1. I've been playing it for the past few weeks (having ditched EA's multiplayer titles months ago). It doesn't have vehicles and is more of a hardcore shooter than Battlefield 1, but it scratches a very similar itch and has a native Linux build.

I've stopped buying games from companies that require an additional login. There's absolutely no reason for it when the game is bought on Steam. It's too much of a hassle wrestling with the launcher, especially when a problem with the launcher is sometimes the only thing stopping the game from running perfectly fine on Linux and there are more than enough enjoyable games out there that don't require an additional account.

I realize this is a noob question, but what's the advantage to using PipeWire over PulseAudio for the average user? I've tried to do a bit of research on the topic, but I've only been able to find information that can be summarized as better on a technical level and also newer. It's the main feature of this update that people seem to be the most excited about, but I can't figure out why. Is there likely to be any appreciable difference if I'm just using my computer for normal tasks like gaming and listening to music?

I hate to sound negative but this is giving me serious Dragon's Den vibes. You know, the bit right before the dragons completely demolish what the contestants thought was a brilliant sales pitch.

At the moment, what I'm seeing is lots of promises and very little evidence to demonstrate that they can achieve their goals.

I've not used it but from what I've read LMDE lags behind a little with features compared to the Ubuntu based versions. However, it seems to be catching up. It was originally conceived as a backup in case they ever had to ditch Ubuntu, so I would imagine with the way things are going they might be accelerating its development.

The upgrade was pretty smooth for me, though I did accidentally uninstall a few things by clicking the wrong button, but nothing vital. Turns out clicking the "Fix" button sometimes just removes the problem rather than, you know, actually fixing it. One thing I did appreciate was the upgrade GUI opening the terminal as well so I could see exactly what it was doing.

I like what they've done with the design, but the new storage manager seems to be confused about my folder structure.
I have two tabs for "Local drive" (the drive where my operating system is), one of which is empty and the other does a breakdown of my entire drive, not just the steam directory. I also have a tab for my additional drive, but it categorizes everything on it as "other" even though the only data on it is Steam games.
Either I've somehow done something wrong or they have a few bugs to fix...
