Dwarf Fortress arrives on Steam, works on Linux desktop and Steam Deck

I bought it right away. Unfortunately I didn't have much time before work to try it out. Though I did notice that I had to use the mouse to interact with the various menus and that the old keyboard controls did not function. Pressing the arrow keys did snap my mouse to a specific location so maybe I just have something setup wrong or it's not fully implemented yet?

Elon Musk completes Twitter takeover, Nextcloud to ship their own social network app

Quoting: GuestFighting nazism is affairs of law enforcement, not twitter's lol. If you see a nazi doing nazi things, write a report to police, maybe?
The Nazi party wasn't some criminal organization that attained political power. It relied on the large amount of hatred towards various groups and worked with that. Antisemitic and bigoted dog whistles aren't illegal. Same goes for stochastic terrorism. The Nazi party rose to power using that hate. Now due to what the Naxi party did it has become heavily politically incorrect to be just outright with that hatred which is why the many many dog whistles are used. However the people that spread this hate are letting the mask slip and being more and more open about it and stuff like the twitter take over has only emboldened them. The only thing that's going to keep twitter from turning into a complete crapshow is that advertisers do not want to be associated with the worst of it which is why Elon's first announcement was pretty much begging the advertisers to stay telling them that he won't let it get too bad.

Persona 5 Royal is a great Steam Deck experience

I've had interest in Persona 4 and Persona 5 for awhile now, but was hoping on Denuvo being eventually removed as some companies do after release, unfortunately it's been years now and it hasn't been removed for Persona 4.

Facepunch put out a fresh statement on Rust for Steam Deck / Linux

Can you even create a password protected game yet? Back when I had interest in the game I just wanted a small private server to build on with friends rather than engage in any serious PvP but that was impossible without using a firewall to just block connections from people who I didn't want in. The only official mode of play is public whether you like it or not.

Characters are randomized(including genital sizes) as part of some social experiment on the developers part. Any discussion on having the player being able to customize their character usually goes downhill fast as the game attracts a very juvenile audience that gets a kick out of people being annoyed by the lack of character customization.

Rust is less of a game and more of a social experiment designed by a troll for trolls.

Though it does suck for those interested in the game that the dev seems hostile towards Linux and doesn't seem to be that motivated to support the platform.

Nintendo Switch emulator yuzu gets 'Local Wireless Multiplayer'

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo how's Yuzu on the Deck? Which is better to play Switch games on, the actual Switch or the Deck?
The experience is still better on the actual Switch for most games I've tried so far. I've been getting various graphical artifacts and performance in a number of games hasn't been amazing. Performance can be improved by halving the render resolution and then upscaling with FSR but this can make smaller text and details pretty bad.

But I'll be flying to Hawaii in a couple weeks and it'll be nice to only have to pack one device and have access to all my games(and without cart swapping!). So far none of my games have outright failed to work or have had issues that stopped me from playing them.

Sweet I was moved to Q3. I'm hoping it gets shipped before I have my trip in October.

Wilderness survival sandbox Vintage Story has a massive upgrade out now

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAt this point I'm not sure what you're complaining about--are you saying that it's DRM if you can't download the game again from a company that's gone under?
The problem is that you might have a downloaded copy saved, but it might not be installable after the company goes under. It's not like a GoG situation where even if GoG goes under, the installers still work and the game is still playable.

Mixing action-adventure and tower defense, Dwerve is out now
16 Jun 2022 at 12:51 am UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: TheSHEEEPPersonally, from a game that sells itself as tower defense + Zelda, I expected more tower defense (you can only build a handful of towers at once, no mazing and practically no time to plan anything) as well as more Zelda (the game is 95% linear and it doesn't look like you unlock new abilities that unlock new paths).
Yeah the lack of prep time is brutal and just makes it more of a chaotic reactive mess than any sort of having a planned defense. And not only are the exploration segments linear but the game regularly blocks off your ability to backtrack. On multiple instances I didn't immediately see how to get a treasure and figured the solution might be further along, only to be quickly blocked off from returning to try and figure it out.

Visually and conceptually it's a pretty cool game... but at the moment it's not really that fun.

As a kid I absolutely loved Harvest Moon and wished there were more games like it...

It seems now the market is getting flooded with them. Which is not a bad thing on it's own. They just generally take so much time to play and I don't have the unlimited amount of free time I used to have. I'm looking forward to getting my Steam Deck and being able to play stuff like this on the go.

Crystal Project is a wonderful new RPG you need to pick up

I love the game but the combat difficulty scales up a lot as you progress and it's not something you can overlevel to compensate for. The game expects very specific tactics and it can get draining when every encounter is a serious threat.

But I hear there is a rebalance effort underway to address this.
