Honestly though, The Dark Mod really needs to stop with the backend feature creep and work on its presentation once and for all. The game has a large community of mission makers, yet the team still shows no interest in finishing the official campaign. The tutorial is also bad and many menu and interface features feel clunky and outdated. I believe this is one of the main reasons why TDM has never reached mainstream appeal despite being a free game with high quality assets: it's default package is just not appealing for a standalone game, and it doesn't offer new players enough content to sink their teeth in without having them download user-made missions of varying quality and length.

It certain looks cool, but the design principle eludes me. Am I supposed to use a full keyboard while holding this thing like a gameboy? Or just lay it flat on the table while awkwardly punching the keys with my index fingers? To me it just feels like a more poorly designed version of the open pandora, and I see no real practical use for it. I'd honestly just prefer to see a regular notebook or laptop with a similar retro case style.

I tried this game, but even though it has a lot of expansions and custom content, it still doesn't come close to the polish of Wipeout 2097. The tracks often feel bland, with no atmosphere and very little attention to detail. Gameplay is way more optimized for keyboard and mouse than gamepad, which is a shame. It also lacks a true sense of progression and reward which was one of the things that made Wipeout circuits feel so special.
Honestly can't we just have someone decompile the PC version of 2097 and make a source port out of it?

This is a graphically impressive and remarkably lengthy adventure game, which sadly suffers from poor writing, bland characters, and a very repetitive soundtrack. I guess i can't complain since it was free, but I was disappointed when halfway along the plot, the game just throws cyberpunk out of the window and becomes something closer to Star Wars. You can also tell it was made by Scandinavians, because the characters won't shut up about the demoscene and how influential it was for computing in their own view.

This game is good, but I feel the devs are torturing themselves at this point by continuing to use the doom engine. There's so much impractical hacking to make this thing work it would be much much simpler at this point to switch to a proper open source 3d engine like Darkplaces or even Q3. For instance, the game still doesn't have working loops because the engine's (lack of) physics do not support them at all. It's also permanently capped on 35 FPS because of similar reasons.

Quoting: MayeulCThat sounds quite interesting, is there more info on this somewhere? Why not just plain SDL2? Is the game way too complex? Not yet, but if you're interested I would advise to you inquire on the development section of their Discord or just ask on the forums.

Quoting: JuliusI believe the progress on that has slowed down, hence why they might be looking for alternatives. The team is also specifically looking for committed developers willing to help migrating the game’s outdated rendering system to a newer API such as OpenGL or Vulkan.Odd... did the plan change to rebuild Wesnoth on top of the Godot engine?
