Valve banning games that allow exchanging cryptocurrencies or NFTs

The data you've shown is terrible - for Bitcoin. The banking system is keeping the world running, while Bitcoin, as said, is not an effective money system to begin with. The one is used for a reason, the other is - literally - dust in the wind. (Which, by the way, was my argument which you didn't really react to. Not valid arguing either.)

Quoting: GustyGhostI happen not to be a banking system. I'm Eike. (You're trying to devalue arguments by assigning a source that you perceive as non reliable. That's not valid arguing.)Quoting: EikeOr maybe they're looking beyond their own nose. Like caring for environment. The same banking system which formulated that argument to peddle to joe normie in actuality uses much more energy. [External Link]
Bitcoin is not an effective currency.
It quickly degraded into an object of speculation.

Quoting: GustyGhostI suspect that a good portion of the gamer crowd is salty about cryptocurrency because of their experiences with inflated GPU prices.Or maybe they're looking beyond their own nose. Like caring for environment.
Anyway, does anyone remember nearly a decade ago when you could actually buy games on Steam with Bitcoin? The glowies shut that down pretty quick. The state can't have people using sound currency.Bitcoin is not an effective currency.

Quoting: foggerYou can already play those games easily on Linux with DOSBox. I don't know why they are selling those games on Steam or GOG when most of those those games can be downloaded for free, legally, at archive.org.It's only legal if the companies have explicitly said so, which doesn't happen too often.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyPresumably there has to be a ceiling somewhere; as the guy said, "If something cannot continue forever, it will stop."Never heard that one. "Stein's Law", Google says. Well, there's weird stuff to get famous for. ;)

Quoting: Purple Library GuyCrypto is fake money.I'd wager to say in effect it isn't money. Years ago, people started to sell coffee for bitcoins around here. I don't think anybody is still doing that. If you sell your coffee for x bitcoins, with which you could buy you new coffee beans and pay your rent and everything, you don't know if it's worth half next month and you cannot pay your rent - or maybe double. Same for the customer. Money with such fluctuations doesn't work. Even currencies with huge inflation are less bad - at least you know which direction it will take.

Quoting: BielFPsIt will if games that people want to play doesn't work with SteamOS, once people spend money with the device they will do whatever it takes to make sure it works as they intended, and Valve will have profit from that in both ways.I can't say either how often this will happen. But most ordinary people to not tinker with their device following some YouTube tips. This might be an impression to get when moving in nerd circles and their websites, but it's not the average Joe and Jane.

But it can still be viable, without having to be something "special for Linux". As long as they can sell without loss (or maybe compensate little losses for the smallest Steam Deck with the big one(s)), they're fine. More hardware to sell games for, as that's their main business.

Quoting: CatKillerTo make a credible console, you need to be aiming at sales of around 100 million units, and you need everyone to know that you're aiming for that kind of audience for your platform so that everyone buys in. Low sales breaks the entire model. Valve aren't making anything like that many. Nowhere near. You need to sell worldwide to normal people in normal shops. Valve aren't doing that, either.I don't think it needs to be one of these two. You'd need to target dozens of millions if your console is competing with the big two, if it's not compatible with anything else and if it wants to fetch exclusive triple A games. None of this is true for Valve. I wouldn't know why they'd need to target so many.
As a demonstration device for Linux gaming...
