Have an Intel processor? Enjoy two more vulnerabilities
29 Jan 2020 at 7:56 am UTC

Quoting: GrimfistThe vulnerabilities itself are not that interesting, because they are a lot more theoretical than previous ones.
But the important facts is:
These vulnerabilities were discovered bei the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Air Force Reseach Laboratory (AFRL) of Australia. So now the military (and probably secret services) seem to have an interest in such vulnerabilities. I wonder why...
Them releasing their knowledge to the public is not the dangerous case...

Quoting: The_Aquabatthere is no reason for using Intel over AMD, in gaming I think that the top tier are even. So not sure why anyone would use intel provided pretty much everything else runs slower on their counterparts.
Not everybody changed their computer yesterday, and Intel was better for decades.

Quoting: EhvisThe vulnerabilities get a surprising amount of press compared to the risk they pose for the average person. I know just enough to realise that there is no reason to worry about these issues for any of my use cases and they I can even safely turn off all the mitigations. It does make me wonder how many people actually think that their computer might get hacked from these problems.
Yes, there are bigger risks with actual exploits in the wild, but to the best of my understanding, some of those "modern" problems (Spectre and following) do impose risks e.g. on browser processes as well. Still they are very interesting theoretically, but not so much in practice. In real world, the biggest security problem is sitting between keyboard and chair.

After a little scare, I realized...
No Intel anymore for two weeks now. :)

(I guess all CPUs have their share, though.)

Quoting: ImnotarobotWhat is the best cpu and memory stress test btw.? I still use Prime95 cause im used to using it.
How viable this would be to really test out 24/7 stability?

Quoting: leinardiHi, I'm the developer of GST. If what ajgp suggested doesn't work, feel free to open an issue on the official issue tracker: https://gitlab.com/leinardi/gst/issues [External Link]
Thanks for your work!

As far as I know, stress testing a modern CPU, I mean, bringing it near 100% of what it can do, is complicated nowadays. Is GST doing that/aiming for that?

Quoting: Laboratoryo_ni_NeilLet's hope they don't get bought into the tempting offer of Epic Games Store exclusivity.
Sony Interactive Entertainment should be a way bigger fish than Epic.
(Didn't find clear numbers for Epic, though.)

Quoting: MayeulCHmm, this should probably show the unanswered questions (in bold, or something to set them appart): I hadn't realized there was one about VR headsets, nor one about X/Wayland before reading the comments :)

Quoting: NezchanAs to spouses, I've only married three. Leah is great all around, and probably my favourite so far. Maru is a surprisingly good mother, which is something she doesn't really hint at beforehand. Penny is...nice? She's a little too "perfect 50s housewife" for my taste really, but to a degree it makes sense for someone with her background to really want that kind of stability.
I start being curious about this game... :S:
This does sound... complex?

I got the impression that the first reboot Tomb Raider did something right with this respect. The world felt open to me, but the story always led me. So what I played was linear, but I never felt... encaged.
