A reminder about Steam's platform-specific wishlist feature you should be using

Quoting: g000hAs such, I haven't enabled this OS filtering in Steam client myself.
I didn't see the part you cannot do with having the filter set...

Quoting: NezchanWait, this is already set on my Steam client (I don't remember manually setting it before, so it must have done so automatically), and yet I am able to go search for a Windows game that I've heard is good and works on Proton, put it on my wishlist, and still receive sale emails about it. Pretty sure I've received sale emails about No Man's Sky, for instance. Am I imagining all that?
No, that's exactly how it works. Search still is fully functional.

Quoting: lordgaultAnd if I have a dual boot, can I have selected the two systems, Windows and Liux? Would my desired games appear for Linux?
Not if you don't have two steam accounts.

Quoting: NinexThe description I've seen of this feature before, and even in this article, don't seem to match up to the actual description on Steam to me. It sounded like a way to let developers know you wanted were wishlisting a game to play on Linux, but the actual description just looks like it simply hides games for other platforms from you as you browse. Is this for your benefit only, or can developers see that you have this option ticked?
It does both. The filtering, if you like it or not, and showing Linux specific wishlist entries to the respective developer. You cann see the developer view at the second image on this page:

Quoting: EikeI switched off the emails instead.
I want the emails when they refer to Linux games.

Quoting: subWill I still get informed about that game being on sale even if it only has Windows version?
Yes you will, this is precisely the problem I have with the system.
That seems to contradict what callcifer says.

So what's the case actually?
The thing is, if you only choose Linux you won't get Windows-only games shown to you at all in your discovery queue or sales/discount emails whereas I want to see them. Maybe I'll try with proton, or even boot to Win7 just for that game.
AFAIK, that's true for the discovery queue but wrong for the sales mails.

Quoting: wintermuteI removed all my non-Linux wishlisted games the other week, I was fed up receiving emails about Windows-only games. Valve needs to come up with a better solution.
I switched off the emails instead.

Quoting: Guest(I don't keep games installed if I'm not playing them, so I don't really see notifications about game updates unless they're posted here.)
Major updates should be posted by the developers as news (that's my hope at least), so following the games could help.

Valve is getting back to focusing on gaming, with non-gaming videos being retired

Quoting: scaineI've already banned them using a filter in Steam's preferences (on the web page). Also, text-based adventures. And "windows", which I don't remember doing...
To me, text adventures (real ones, not the multiple choice games) are quite an opposite to visual novels. They give you so much freedom to try what you want. Think there might be something under the doormat? Look under it! Try that in Witcher, Fallout, ... or a visual novel.
If you're not into it, you're not into it, but I can whole-heartedly recommend playing Thaumistry.

Quoting: GuestClick baity nonsense title on that article but it does raise the very valid and very worrying point about how reliant we are on Steam. It is something I have been uncomfortable with for a while, being someone who really dislike monopolies.
You hit the wrong article with your answer, I guess.
