Steam beta client adds Vulkan support, plus some handy Steam Controller adjustments

Quoting: EdmeneThe bad part of the update is that makes GRID: Autosport run at least for me in "background" only with the sounds of the videos and menu, in SteamOS killing the game is the only way of going back to steam menu and in Arch using it in windowed mode solves the problem.
Ah! I had the same effect (on Debian) and no idea where it came from, because I tried quite a lot to make my new Steam Controller work. Thanks for pointing out!

Quoting: minjSpeaking of controllers... I still need to replace the xpad driver in linux44 with one from steamos to get my xbox360 wired controller running. I remember seeing some talk of those improvements reaching the mainline kernel long ago. What gives?

Or is it my system only?
Xbox 360 wired controller should be the easiest case there is, and it is running out-of-the-box on my Debian stable with kernel 3.16's xpad driver...

I would make the word depend on the development process.
If Feral got a snapshot every now and then and tries to make it run on linux, I'd call it "(simlutaneous) port", but not if Feral had continous write access to the general code repository. There are possibilities in-between, so in the end, we cannot really judge.
Important is that they obviously worked were close enough to the development process to be able to provide a high-quality Linux version

It's running so bad on Windows that the performance nearly equals that on Linux? *duckandcover*

No, seriously: Great work, Feral. Bought for full price this time.
(With a Steam controller, the package is waiting for me today! Yeah!)

Pillars of Eternity: The White March - Part II is now available

Quoting: Mountain ManAnother way to look at it is that correctly, 1/3 of the Steam catalog is currently available for Linux. Three-years ago, there were zero! Linux gamuing has grown by leaps and bounds in a short amount of time.
It's also a matter of perspective: If you come from 100%, 30% may seem little, if you come from about 0%, it's much.
In absolute numbers (of "fun hours" ), it's more than I need.

I don't like this Linux website rivalry and bashing.
We should pull together.
In the same direction.

Quoting: wvstolzingI wonder whether there'll be any improvement with respect to texture pop-in, which is awful right now on my system (gtx970, 361.28 drivers).
Disable level streaming. Your HDD is slow for some reason probably.
I'm getting occassional texture popin from SSD.
(Will still try your tip.)

Quoting: Mountain ManAnd I had some guy on the Steam forums yesterday trying to convince me that Linux gaming was never going to happen. Guess he hadn't kept up with current events.
I had one yesterday claiming that it might happen some day. I'm answering those that to me, Linux gaming gives me more to play than I have time for it - it's just a smaller stack of shame.

My current stack has some more hours of
* Talos Principle: Road to Gehenna
* Grid: Autosports
... and not yet begun:
* Alien: Isolation
* Shadowrun Hong Kong
* XOM 2
* Divinity: Original Sin
Even with two hours a day, which I hardly have time for, that would be at least two months of gaming, I guess.

The Talos Principle getting a Linux build using Vulkan in a few days

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLFor now The Talos Principle on Vulkan is only wrapped... Nothing interested in performance state.
They wrapped "engine design around Vulkan", not Vulkan around OpenGL or something. All fine.
