EVERSPACE 2 developer gets a 1.65 million Euro grant from the German federal parliament

Quoting: pbOk, but why? What's in it for the society/country?
As said above, the goal would be to give an industry a push where the country is weak at at the moment.
(Of course with the hope that the industry doesn't need such pushes forever.)
In the end, it would be supposed to get more people into work and generate more taxes in later years.

Quoting: pbMost of the time I don't have an idea what country a given game is made in until Steam puts it on a country-focused sale, nor do I care.
Yeah, but that doesn't matter for Germany as long as you buy some. ;)
This is not about the country's image or something, it's about money in the end.

I know the feeling though. Whenever there's some Steam special about games from a certain country, I'm surprised which games are coming from there... Because, to us it doesn't really matter.

Quoting: pbFrom the list, I only ever heard of a few and only because they are sequels. Also what the hell is "codename mashed potato" at #5?
Not much more than they didn't yet coin the real name. But I guess Mimimi productions is quite well known - they made Shadow Tactics and Desperados III. (So there's hope we'll get Linux native mashed potatoes...! :D )

Quoting: pbWow, what a weird thing to spend taxpayers' money on. Not the worst way, but still weird.
I guess it's supposed to support video games industry growth. As far as I know, Germany is a big market, but not so big in producing games... I'm surprised by the sum of money, though.

Valve giving away tons of Steam Decks during The Game Awards 2022

Quoting: samurroIts double the weight of the switch, at least to the quick google search I did. So I am not sure where your arguments are. I even said "mobile gaming".

But I get the feeling this forum is not accustomed to different opinions on anything...
Well, I've got weak nerd arms and I'm playing with it. I'm sure this is true for some others here. This does not change with a different opinion, because I tried. Of course this might feel different for you, but this is not a matter of opinions either - you'll know when/if you try it. (Maybe if you get hands on a switch you could make it heavier?)

I wonder what kind of (constructive) answer you're expecting?

*edit* How nice it feels for you might depend on what you imagine under "mobile gaming". Playing on bus, train, backseat of car, ...? Sure. Playing while walking around? Well, I wouldn't do that. But I wouldn't do that with any other device either.

"Cross-play across different stores" sure is nice - but how bad that it's something that doesn't go without saying...

I've never played Amnesia, though... I believe all the hype that it's super scary, and that's scared me off of it, lol
It was a great entry for me and many others to this kind of game, but to be honest, in not sure if it would make a great experience as the third or fourth one.

Though I don't believe they can ever top SOMA.

November's Steam Survey shows another uptick for Linux thanks to Steam Deck

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAn interesting figure in itself. So like, Linux is at 1.44%. And Steam Decks, almost entirely running Linux, are 0.37% (and climbing). So that means Linux without Steam Deck is 1.07%, and the Steam Deck represents just over a quarter of total Linux use on Steam.
At this point, the Deck is already giving Linux use a substantial boost. And as I understand it, for the first few months of release sales were significantly constrained by manufacturing capacity; they're faster now. If sales continue at the present rate, that's probably at least 0.5% per year and quite likely more. Which, put like that, doesn't sound like a whole lot--but it agrees with Gradyvuckovic's take that Steam Deck could take Linux Steam usage over Mac by 2024.
It's certainly way faster growth than Linux gaming has ever seen.
It should be sooner than that. You are counting 0.5% per year, but Steam Deck sales at the beginning of this year wasn't as big, so the 0.5 figure isn't accurate. If we go by October's numbers: (2.45 - 1.44) / (1.44 - 1.28) = 7 months or so. So, if the current pace continues we should see Linux overtaking macOS in July 2023.
I don't know about the months before, but last month, Mac grew stronger (percent-point wise) than Linux (+0.22% vs. +0.16%). I still think we're going to take 'em sooner or later.

Quoting: jarhead_hWhen Valve first integrated Proton into Steam I predicted it would be about five years before we overtake Apple. I didn't expect it to require the Steam Deck to do it, but I'll take it.
You're being generous today. ;)

Quoting: uzayDoes that mean you can run Linux inside TF2 through Proton in Linux? 🤔
And then run TF2 natively on that Linux inside TF2! 🤣
This is not true without Doom somewhere in the chain!
