Adventure RPG Short 'A Bird Story' Out Now
9 Nov 2014 at 8:05 pm UTC

The above cynicism notwithstanding, I loved the first game and thought that it earned every emotional response it got through a fascinating journey through the subject's life.

However, I wouldn't go into A Bird Story expecting one for the ages like To The Moon. It's short, it's simple, it's pretty charming, and if that's your expectation going in it will be met. What really impresses me are the ways dream, imagination and reality blend so well with the graphical style the devs have chosen. Transitions from one scene to the next are really amazing in their own right, and you can tell the team is really learning to use the tile-based concept to their advantage in ways I can't recall seeing before.

It's really got me looking forward to the next full game.

Nice! Now if we can get Anodyne to run without the accursed Air, I'll be happy.

You can pre-order at GameAgent.com and get an exoplanets map pack as well as $25% off. I'd say that's pretty worth it, even if there is a bit of a wait. From what I gather, buying on Steam on the Linux release date doesn't get you either bonus.

However, our development team is extremely good at what they do, and we expect to make significant strides in performance improvement over the next several weeks.
So my earlier guess of "end of November" was too much optimistic. Mid-December at best, maybe? They did say "Holiday season" before.

Banished, Transistor and Banner Saga are pretty far up there in the "we're working on Linux, really!" club.

I can kinda understand with these one or two person shops, but wow.

I had assumed that there would be months between the Windows and Linux releases, although deep down I'd hoped it would only be weeks. The reference to "holiday season" suggests at minimum after US Thanksgiving, seems to lean towards the latter.

I am saddened to be correct in my assumption.

UH?
Woah, you usually don't see so many mouthbreathers outside an aquarium.

Apparently Gabe Newell isn't actually a person? Bet he'd be surprised to hear it!

The apologism is coming thick and fast on Mike's Twitter feed, I see. Personally, especially coming as it does during the whole GamerGate fiasco, I'd rather not see gaming accept a "boys will be boys" attitude towards death threats. Steam did right, and Mike is facing consequences for his actions which is also right.

Sure, he can turn things around in the future and in his own apology letter he seems to recognize that being the public face of a company is the wrong role for him. I personally hope he learns from all this and works to be better in the future, and not to buy into the narrative that "it's not so bad" and starts seeing himself as victim in this situation.

Personally I would have been more upset by the awful promo art on the carousel than the "Early Access" blurb that most people ignore.
