An Awesome Developer Response To A Comment On The Linux Version Being A Waste Of Time
9 Jul 2015 at 2:32 pm UTC

It's pretty basic business, really. If you're in it for the quick cash grab, concentrating solely on existing, established platforms has a good short-term payoff. But if you set your sights on the long term, it's wise to look for emerging markets you can get in on the ground floor of, and invest in those to hopefully expand in that direction. Given the growth of Linux gaming in the past few years and the development of better and better dev tools along the way, it makes sense for them to see Linux as one of those new frontiers.

Linux itself is ever getting closer to a state where the average, non-technical user (like myself to a degree) can get into it without the headaches of digging under the hood to get stuff to work like it used to be. That in itself will help drive that market, so hopefully both will benefit.

Unturned, A Highly Rated Free To Play Survival Game Released For Linux

I'm less turned off by the phrase "free to play" as I am by "zombie infestation". Although both give me the reaction "Oh god, not another one."

Might give this a go though, for funsies.

Pillars Of Eternity 2.0 & Expansions Announced, Looking Great
28 Jun 2015 at 4:54 pm UTC

Quoting: EikeSame as for Wasteland 2: Already spent so many hours with it (just being busy doing so), that I'll have enough of the game when this is out.
This is actually why I'm not playing Wasteland 2 until the patch comes out. Fortunately, I was distracted by other things for a while right after I got it, so I'm able to enjoy the whole thing with all the improvements when it comes out. Call it a happy accident.

Official Trailer Released For Upcoming Stealth Game 'Twin Souls: The Path of Shadows'

Is it just me, or does the combat seem weirdly weightless, like your character is stabbing a piece of paper rather than a human? I like the stealth and shadow manipulation stuff though.

Splatter - Blood Red Edition, A Top-down Shooter With A Film-noir Style Single Player, Thoughts & Video

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionMight pick this up to quench my thirst for top down shooter action in case Hatred never comes to Linux.
From the reviews I've been seeing, your thirst won't be quenched even if it does. Better to stick with something like this, which seems to actually be a good game.

Quoting: liamdaweThe start may feel like an ordinary top-down zombie fest (could that ever be ordinary?)...
These days? It's all too ordinary, but it looks like the lighting does make up for that. I'm at the point where just seeing "zombie" in the tags for a game makes me lose interest, the whole concept is so overdone.

City-builder ‘Banished’ Linux Port Nearing Release
2 May 2015 at 3:57 pm UTC

A friend bought this for me on Steam for Xmas, and I was never able to get it running properly through Wine (ran progressively slower as I played, frequent crashes) so this is something I've been definitely looking forward to.

I am highly disappointed that in the video on the Kickstarter site includes ZERO ukulele music. I mean seriously, people!

Stop Everything, Tea Party Simulator 2015 Released For Linux

It looks like this is a QWOP-like, similar to Surgeon Simulator or Octodad, rather than a takeoff of Goat Simulator and the like. That is, doing ordinary things with seriously awkward controls. I can imagine this would be fun for people who liked SS.

Storm United, A Beautiful New FPS Now In Early Access, We Have Keys

So weird, the second map, at about 0:08 in the video, looks almost exactly like one of the main maps from Gear Up, an third person arena shooter.

First Teaser Video Released For Upcoming Point-And-Click Adventure Game Hiveswap

I'm seriously looking forward to this, ever since I got in on the Kickstarter back in 2012. Andrew Hussie is a brilliant writer, although his downfall is with open-ended projects like Homestuck where he tends to run off in all directions. A project with a more constrained scope like this (apparently the intention is to follow this up with other games so it'll be semi-episodic) seems to be exactly the thing to bring out his strengths and constrain his weaknesses. It's also likely to be a lot less in-jokey than Homestuck since he's aiming this at a broader market than just his fans.

From the updates I've been seeing, it's certainly shaping up to be a serious project so I have faith the final result will be worth the wait.
