Language learning game Lingotopia to release on August 16th with Linux support

The last time I took a look at this on Itch.io, it was more a vocabulary game than actually learning how to speak a language. It told you what a few things were, quizzed you on a few words, but that was about it in the end. Nothing about grammar or anything but "this is the word for tree" level stuff.

Hopefully the full release version will have a bit more depth to it.

An update on the Linux version of Twilight Struggle, four years after the Kickstarter

Quoting: GuestI'd say cut them some slack, it's not like they raised more than 1 million dollars and then just basically went with "fuck you linux (and mac) users" [External Link]...
No, they raised $660,126 and threw it down a hole with almost nothing to show for it and extremely little communication with backers. I'm confident that they would have said much the same thing if they came anywhere close to making a playable game, especially given that they're trying to twist their way out of a port for the one they did make.

Now, see, this was your first mistake. You're talking about Playdek.

Oh yeah, Playdek! Those are the guys who mismanaged Unsung Story and frittered away all the Kickstarter money for it. They were consistently uncommunicative as to the status of the game and what work they were doing, abruptly changed the mechanics of the game without any consultation, and when they started running out of funds decided to try to make a quick knock-off mobile game to raise more. The new company that took over the project found that the design documents were a total mess and almost no useable work had been created.

Not surprised to see they continue to carry on business in that vein.

Hello!

Are they any good, do they have an interesting story or anything?
Storylines in the AF games tend to be a bit melodramatic, but to the point of being charming rather than repelling. Don't look for anything too advanced there, but do look for enjoyable puzzles and fantastic art, with a bit of variety in style from title to title.

Dicey Dungeons, a new roguelike from Terry Cavanagh is a little bit addictive

Reminds me a bit of Donsol [External Link], which does a dungeon crawl using a standard Poker deck. Although this seems to include a lot more tricks thanks to the format.

Makes me wonder where those 417 Linux titles in my Steam library come from. Well, quite a few come from Humble Bundles, but apart from that I've bought 17 games so far in 2018. In they weren't even in the below-one-Euro pricing range: Helium Rain, Factorio, Skyforce Reloaded, RUINER, ROTR, Steamworld Dig 2,...

I'd rather say people on Windows don't buy games. They copy 'em.
Obviously that is not enough when you compare ports cost/ Linux staff cost vs sales.

Congrats for you man
Woo, look at those goalposts fly!

GOG have added a bunch of Hidden Object puzzle games from Artifex Mundi

Agree with the others. I got a bunch of Artifex Mundi games in a Humble Bundle a while back, including the Grim Legends series, and while the stories and acting can be pretty cheesy at times they're actually pretty charming for all of it. The puzzles are fun and the art is uniformly amazing, which is always a plus.

Blah. The fish-eye lens effect of the faux CRT monitor is a huge turn-off. It didn't exactly make the game (or any game) better back when that's all we had, and I don't see how introducing a fake version of the same distortion makes anything better now. It seems weird for a dev team who talks about removing barriers to make the game more accessible to introduce a new barrier to make it less accessible.
