Quoting: NanobangGood. I'm glad Steam has grown up and grown some huevos.
...by taking the most spineless position possible that avoids actually having to actually do anything.
I'd say it's rather the opposite. It has always been easier for companies to censor and discriminate to appeal powerful religious/political organizations and stay out of their radar as much as possible.
Trouble-makers are always looking for a company to target with a holy crusade to enforce their own personal values on the masses. I bet it won't be long until some of these assholes start a @boycottvalve campaign using some insignificant game that nobody is forced to buy or play as a pretext. Yet Valve resolved to endure this for your and my freedom as well. And I praise them for that.

When the shitstorm will happen I will support them with my wallet as I do for linux gaming.
LOL! This isn't Valve taking a stand for freedom. This is Valve cowering in the corner and saying "Stop criticising us! Look! You can have your anime tiddy games!"

As other people have noted, they left themselves a "trolling" loophole to allow staff to kick out stuff like Active Shooter, although they're sure to only do so if there's a lot of negative media attention first.

Quoting: KelsHonestly, it looks like they've still got a long way to go on the visuals. The BR side of it still looks way too much like Fortnite and that's going to invite "ripoff" talk. Whether that's true or not, it'll still hurt their sales if they don't make the difference clear enough.
Well, Fortnite isn't on Linux. For me, that's the deciding factor of course. Cross play between PC and Switch too, which means my son can get involved and play with me, that essentially speaks to me directly.

No micro transactions too, so you don't end up paying a ridiculous amount over time? Even better.

Single player, co-op support, multiple game modes including Battle Royale...yeah it sounds good to me.

Still, it could be a total flop, naturally if it is we will let people know :P
Hey, I want it to succeed as much as you do. But they're setting themselves up for problems unless they're able to separate themselves from "looks like Fortnite".

Linux game porter Ryan 'Icculus' Gordon is looking for new games to bring to Linux
11 Jun 2018 at 11:57 pm UTC

Quoting: HoriI'd like TES: Blades or Fallout 76 to be ported. It might be a good opportunity for Bethesda to test the waters with them, since they are not quite part of the main series, but spin-offs - kinda like how they did with ESO for Mac. Blades should be easy seeing how it is developed for many different platforms already, but F76 might prove a challenge.

Skyrim would do too, seeing how Linux and Mac are pretty much the only platforms it wasn't ported to yet. But this probably won't happen.
TES:Blades is coming to Android, so that's something. It's designed for phones though, so I'm not sure how great a Linux PC port would be.

Quoting: AryvandaarYeah, and camera work in the Devolver conference was super wierd. It almost looked like the audience wasn't there. Super freaky.
They weren't. All the audience shots were either staged or taken from stock footage. Some of them were clearly in different rooms. Not sure why they prioritize that over, you know, talking about the games.

They seriously could have given three links to YouTube, and you'd know more about what they're offering.

I think pushing the idea that Gordon should be doing AAA games because that's what Linux needs is really not thinking clearly. That's something a team should be doing, not a soloist. As mentioned already, his work on Rocket League was enough to convince him that it's not a good use of his time or passion, and he is far more effective porting medium and small games. That way he can do a lot without burning out or losing his passion for the work, both of which would likely happen if you saddled him with big AAA projects.

Not to mention, the idea that porting good games that aren't necessarily the kind of stuff Feral ports is a waste really misses how good some of the stuff he works on is, and how appreciated by Linux users who aren't necessarily into big budget flash.

Sure, Linux needs more AAA games. But the right tool for the job, people.

Planet Stronghold 2 brings more RPG & Visual Novel blending, will support Linux again

I played the first one a while back, and while mostly the VN and RPG stuff meshed pretty well and it was fun to play, there was a story element toward the end that really soured things for me.

Spoiler, click me
In particular, while the other romances ended up pretty steamy, the only F/F romance route ended without even a kiss. Just a "we'll see once you beat the final mission" and no real follow-up after that. Total buzzkill for me, and my heart wasn't really in finishing after that, although I did.

Oh god yes, and he'd only have to do it once because they all pretty much run the same engine. He'd probably have it all done in an afternoon.

Pity that Devolver was more interested in doing awkward skits at their press conference than showcasing actual games. They didn't even bother to show the trailer for SS4 despite having said they'd give more info beyond those screenshots.

Quoting: KelsPan-Pan, an absorbing little puzzle game with a similar aesthetic to Monument Valley, is on sale for 80% off. It's relatively short, but for less than CDN $3 I'd say it's worth the price.

I picked this up a couple days ago. It is really fun!

You have to be patient at the start as it doesn't give much info away. However, I thought it was very clever. The only puzzle I didn't like was the tombstones with eyes. The whole thing was very very cute, though.
The logic of the eye temple was hard to figure out, and the yellow component was pretty non-intuitive. Nothing really indicated that was possible and I just took it as background like the birds are. But the rest of it was brilliant.
