Slime Rancher is another Unity game to have black screen problems on Linux, here's a temp fix
5 Mar 2018 at 11:46 pm UTC

Quoting: ShmerlHow can such regressions be even released? Unity has no QA?
I don't think this is a regression. Unity supports/releases updates for multiple versions concurrently and just looking at the major.minor version isn't enough to work out which version is older than another.

Slime Rancher is on 2017.1.0p4, which was released in August last year. The fix for the issue highlighted here didn't land in the 2017.1.x branch until 2017.1.0p5, which AFIK coincides with it being fixed in the 5.6.x branch.

IMO, if this highlights a problem at Unity's end, it's that critical issues in older engine versions aren't clearly signalled to developers prior to downloading.

Quoting: devnullHm. Steam page doesn't show Linux or a Beta?
The developers want to work on it more before advertising Linux support.

Quoting: slaapliedjeDoes it work in VR yet? Pretty sure this one has VR support in Windows
Yes, at least the last time I tried it. I haven't gotten around to re-installing and trying it again with this new version after I reinstalled my system.

I'll try it and see if it still works, and report back.
I didn't have any luck getting it up and running in VR today, unfortunately (like beniwtv, I had success with previous builds).

The Fall Part 2: Unbound to release with Linux support on Feb 13, new trailer has arrived

Quoting: KelsThe original game is great, even if the combat mechanic was a little clunky.
It may or may not make things more to your taste, but we shipped an update late last year that brought some controls/handling from part 2 back to part 1.

Quoting: no_information_hereThe first story felt complete enough to me but definitely left me wanting a sequel.
Enjoy the time when The Fall and the things it invites players to think about are what they are while it lasts! Part 2's existence will make it harder to appreciate the first game's story as a standalone thing :)

Edit: By the way, it's a bit late, but if you're already keen on the game, don't watch the trailer. That character's introduction in the game is way more interesting/compelling when it's not flavoured by the later events that are shown there.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWhy do we care how Huns spell things, anyway?
Serious answer, libhunspell is used to autocorrect misspelled words/typos so that the game's AI can respond correctly.

Pixeljam are crowdfunding Dino Run 2, the developer answered some of my concerns

Quoting: muntdefemsDunno... I'm not a big fan of Pixeljam after their iffy Linux support. Let's hope it will all change after leaving Flash behind.
Out of interest, what problems have you had (beyond the original Dino Run/Dino Run DX not shipping for Linux on Steam)?

InnerSpace from PolyKnight Games & Aspyr Media launches with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts
1 Feb 2018 at 6:19 am UTC

FWIW, I also reached out to the developers a bit over a week ago to let them know, and it sounded like it was something that Aspyr needed to sort out.

Since there were a couple of posts since, I wanted to highlight that the developer has dropped by to respond to comments here (it'd been sitting in the moderation queue).

Quoting: BeamboomBut as for those categories that requires every nominee to have been played - we better leave that to the one guy amongst us who has.
Nothing against Liam and his opinions, but I think it's better to have input from all of the "editorial staff" to balance things out.
As a member of that staff (and someone who loves to waffle on about games he loves), I think that that sort of thing would be best done as a companion article to broader, community-wide voting results like this instead of a replacement.

While lots of the results here veer away from my tastes, I still think it's important to give the community a voice (both through the results and through the comments here). After all, we get to write about stuff that interests us all year round :)
