System76 releases the Kudu featuring AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

I understand the frustrations with a lack of amd gpus in high end laptops but I feel like one of a few who very pragmatically concedes that nvidia makes the best gpus you might be able to buy. Mind you, I hate their drivers and am very well aware of their still continued anti-competitive practices but again I struggle to justify the costs of a worse GPU. Unless AMDs drivers for their graphics cards (open source ones of course) improve the performance in my games so much over my 2070 Super, I don't understand the insistence on AMD only.

A brief aside, when did 16:9 stop being a desirable screen ratio? 1920x1080 is usually all I need for what I play/work on, on a given day. And as a resolution target it's quite easy to hit high framerates with alongside not taking a ton of rendering power to accomplish at those high refresh rates/fps. Now I did see something about the price relative to the specs so I totally understand if the screen is related to that. I just feel like the moving target has moved, and I didn't see it move so I'm curious why.

The Steamdeck is Valve's logical conclusion of their original plans for a second steam controller. Combine the haptics and sensors of the knuckles controllers and the touchpads of the original steam controller (which still exist on the deck just in a different form) and then add a screen to it like various Steam controller prototypes did. Then, "just" add a small PC into it and tada, Steam controller 2: a.k.a Steamdeck.
Was I dreaming it, or didn't they say you can use the deck as a controller to a pc? That's SC2 right there (a very expensive one though).

If that's not true, then they should make it true!
Not to my knowledge. Personally I would rather not but that's just me.

Godot Engine 4.0 Alpha 1 is out with Vulkan support, rendering overhaul

Quoting: TrainDocNo it's GLSL.
I'm not sure what making the language more accessible means than if they are using an existing one.
Godot uses GLSL, but you're not writing the GLSL shaders your GPU would be executing from scratch. There's a lot of boilerplate that Godot puts together with your code snippets to make the experience more streamlined. Things like accessing the model-view matrix as simply MODELVIEW_MATRIX are not standard GLSL, they're uniform variables Godot is defining for you.
Ah that's close to what I was thinking. Thanks for the clarification.

Heroic Games Launcher for Epic Games on Linux adds gamepad support

Quoting: rustybroomhandleWish Lutris team would do some work to make that a bit more Steam Deck friendly.

On Twitter there was some back 'n forth between Heroic and Bottles about potentially allowing Heroic to use Bottles to manage wine. A stellar idea!

Thread here: Twitter [External Link]
Yes, we will work on a Bottles integration in the future.
Bottle dev is also helping us with our Flatpak since he had the same issues we are having with permission. :)
In regards to bottles, is there a way for me to manage Steam proton prefixes (bottles) via Bottles? I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding the functionality etc.

I'm guessing the visual shaders implementation of the GLSL has been improved.

And speaking of effects, our shader maintainer Yuri Roubinsky (Chaosus) poured a lot of love into making the shading language and visual shaders more accessible and versatile.
Is Godot using its own custom shading language?
No it's GLSL.

Quoting: PhlebiacManufacturing compatible hardware seems like opening the door to lawsuits; Nintendo in particular likes to lawyer up.
While I agree, Nintendo isn't making NES, SNES, N64 or Gamecube consoles anymore. And since this is hardware that depends on physical media (cartridges/discs etc) Nintendo has no legal standing to prevent them unless RetroArch screw up and copy BIOS code etc which I don't see them doing.
they made nes mini and snes mini recently, and put an n64 emulator on switch...
Do they take their respective cartridges?
no, but it affect their business model, not sure on how an lawyer would interpret that
Yes, but also: is Nintendo making the discs and cartridges necessary to make these games in their original format? These are questions you would ask a jury etc. These are important details that reflect the purpose of this hardware.
