Oh nice, thanks! I don't think I've ever heard of that one before.

I love games like this. Too bad there are so few of them.

I'm still eagerly waiting (and hoping) for Obduction on Linux, but it seems they're still focused on VR at this point.

AMDGPU-PRO 17.10 driver released

Quoting: UltraVioleton Mint 17 everything was fine, now on Mint 18 i get the 'bootstrap' error when trying to load up Steam because its looking for the proprietary drivers and Mint 18 doesn't have them. i realize its just a matter of removing some legacy code from Steam, but, not being great at this kind of thing last time i tried it i didn't have much luck
If you haven't already, try installing the most recent version of the Steam client directly from http://store.steampowered.com/about/ and see if that helps. Just click "Install Steam Now" and install the provided deb package. You should also make sure you have a recent Mesa release installed to get the most out of your gpu. Check out the PPA I linked to earlier.

BTW, Steam itself doesn't look for any particular graphics driver, proprietary or not. The problem must be something else.

Quoting: tuubiIt's big and complicated so of course there'll be bugs and glitches? Developers just love customers like you. :)
Maybe because I am a developer too.
Yeah, me too. That doesn't mean I'd have the gall to tell our customers to accept glaring, user experience spoiling bugs and glitches in our products. But to be fair, ARK is still an unfinished game. I guess someone who pays for Early Access should expect beta quality at best.

Quoting: UltraVioletI guess if I'm using a legacy AMD GPU I have to use the open source drivers on Mint 18 and still can't use Steam ?
The open source AMD drivers won't stop you from running Steam and games, but your legacy GPU might.

Quoting: LeopardYou can get latest Mesa updates with this ppa on Mint/Ubuntu. I'm on Mesa 17.0.3 right now and i'm using stable ones.

This is the bleeding edge one.

I might give those a try, a few months ago the OIBAF PPA didn't work, nothing appeared in the Driver manager :/ only the Pro would actually install.. however the pro doesnt work with Mint Cinnamon ( or at least it didn't a few months ago ) so i had to migrate the desktop to MATE.
There's also this newish PPA maintained by a Canonical employee:

Quoting: ArdjeI spent 40 euro on ark, and it was a 40 euro well spend. I have glitches and bugs, but if you look at the size of the game of course it will have problems.

Quoting: mike44I only had problems with ppa but not with direct downloads from nvidia. after you've installed the driver that comes with ubuntu, update is easy as about:
sudo lightdm service stop
cd to the driver
./NVidia*
update driver click yes
sudo reboot
The PPA method is still safer and simpler. Only consider using Nvidia's installer if you actually have problems with the PPA packages.

GNOME Twitch releases a major update with notifications, offline channel searching and more

Quoting: KelsPeople keep raving about how good Streamlink Twitch GUI is, but unfortunately they don't provide a .deb or .rpm package at all, and there seems to be little interest on the part of the dev to provide them. I tried installing via npm as the site suggests and it totally didn't work, so I gave it up as a bad experience.
Just tried it this morning. Seems slick. There's no need for npm or anything, just make sure you've got streamlink (>=0.4.0), x11-utils and xdg-utils (or the equivalent packages) and then download the latest release. Now you can just run start.sh from wherever you extracted the package or create a nice desktop launcher with the included script.

Quoting: ShmerlWell, I actually just saw this: Twitch to start selling video games this week. So I thought this is a new open source client for their store.
Oh wow. I had no idea that was happening. I guess this isn't a big surprise, Twitch being owned by Amazon and all.
