There's also the fact that consoles aren't considered computers, but gaming appliances. There's no expectation of openness or freedom of use here, unlike with personal computers.

Quoting: g000hHowever, Microsoft are doing what they're best at - Monopolizing the market - They don't allow developers to use Vulkan on XBOX One platform, only DX12. So if you want to develop for Windows and XBOX, then you have to include DX12 support to get your game on XBOX.The European Commission has sued and fined Microsoft multiple times for abusing the de facto monopoly Windows holds on the desktop, but Sony is actually much larger in the European console market. And I don't see Vulkan support on the PS4 either. (Unofficial Linux hacks don't count.)
One of the things that has irritated me about Microsoft for years is their anti-competitive practices. Would be great if the EU could sue them about it.

Arkanoid II on the Amiga. How many hours did I sink into that game, I wonder. This one looks all shiny, but I wonder if all the extra stuff going on in addition to good old block-breaking actually makes it less fun? I might want Puppet Kings, but I'll need to read a few more reviews before it ends up on my wishlist.

Quoting: voyager2102Shenzhen I/O is definitely worth it, even if you felt TIS-100 was a bit inaccessible. No easier though. It hurts my brain, but I'm loving it.Quoting: GuestAragami and Bioshock seem like okay games, i may get it for them. Has anyone played the Shenzen I/O game? Is it worth to buy? It's a great game if you like complex programming games like TIS-100. The game comes with a nice back story and even material to print out like in the old adventure games. For me that game alone was worth buying the bundle for. There is also a little card game as part of the back story that is really well done.

Check out Boiling Steam's recent interview with Timothee Besset [External Link]. It sheds light on some of the questions discussed here. Specifically Valve's grand plan regarding SteamOS/Linux, challenges of getting big AAA devs on the platform etc.

Quoting: ElectricPrismCan someone please release a stat program on github that records stats once a month and we will make it a dependency of all steam installs.Even if you had the power to somehow "make it a dependency of all Steam installs", I don't think another bit of (involuntary) telemetry is the answer. You'd just give more ammo to the privacy conscious Linux users who detest Steam. And make reluctant users like me just a bit more reluctant. Valve already has all the data they need (or want).
The Talos Principle going Fusion, Croteam dropping OpenGL & Serious Sam 4 still coming

The game definitely deserves to be played though. If you enjoy puzzles and/or philosophy, you will most likely get a lot out of the game.

Quoting: GuestI know the feeling. My wishlist is endless for a reason.Quoting: tuubiI know. But I'm broke for the rest of this month thanks to the plumbers when we had frozen pipes. I'm sadly gonna have to wait on it.Quoting: GuestI've been having The Talos Principal setting in my wishlist forever. I'm gonna try to grab it on the next Steam sale. It's -80% on Steam until the 15th of January.

Quoting: liamdawePersonally, I'm quite excited by Serious Sam 4! Having another quality FPS on Linux that uses Vulkan is going to be great, although it's likely still quite some time away from any kind of release.I can't say I care about Sam, but I'm looking forward to The Talos Principle 2. I think Croteam already confirmed they'll be working on a sequel or at least another first person puzzle game.

Quoting: GuestThis was back when I was rocking an Athlon Thunderbird or maybe an Athlon XP with a slow HDD to boot, so compiling anything took quite a bit of time. And I'm sure Gentoo's infrastructure has been streamlined in many ways since. It's been quite a while.Quoting: tuubiDropped the distro for Gentoo at some point, and even if I spent most of my time compiling software, at least portage was (and is) an awesome package manager...Compiling doesn't get in the way most of the time. But there is the odd occasion I need to let things run overnight (llvm needs MAKEOPTS="-j1" or it fails for me, but I suspect that's just me).
