Let me explain, I'm not someone that eats distro dog food. I do my own thing and build my own software, versioned and configured the way I want it. Slackware now, with all those frameworks and dependencies to accommodate KDE Plasma, is very difficult to maintain by hand. No dependency tracking on packages is fine, except when you've got thousands of them. Also, I'm not keen on PAM, eudev, elogind etc. in the first place. It's no longer good old Slackware, though he's done a marvelous job of accommodating it all.
I'm not keen on an all or nothing system ("Do a full install!" is now the refrain) either.
My non-gaming system is a custom from-scratch build, that has everything exactly the way I want it. That's pretty hard to beat, but too onerous for all the dependencies (+lib32) needed for gaming to maintain ALL of it yourself.
Arch has all the necessary tools (and necessary evils) for me to do my thing for gaming use. Some of the things they do drive me batty though lol
I'm pretty much stuck with Redshat based distros on servers, if I want to use things like Cpanel though.

Quoting: geekeningDo you think we have a reputation for being "picky"? I noped out of Linode back in the early 2010s when I tested their Slackware images and found they did some iffy things to the init scripts. It was long ago, I forget, but I didn't like itYes, if used to having things the Slackware way, everything else is bullshit. Sadly, when Slackware 15 finally came out (I was using -current in anticipation, but no longer as my main squeeze), I discovered that I didn't really want to use it anymore.

I've never tried it, because I'm always afraid of doing something that will make me lose control of the box and have to call the datacenter. Most often their solutions are to re-image, so I don't take leaps of faith on servers.
My big lesson... one time I had to coach a technician to poke and stab to boot the box to the old kernel after the network didn't come up with mine. He wasn't very knowledgeable and this was almost going to be a ticket for a re-image if not for that. This was in the Redhat 7.0 days (before RHEL, this was in 2002 that this happened to me), their silly init scripts wouldn't initialize the network if the NIC driver wasn't a module. My second build did, and it worked. This Slackware user (at the time) sure didn't like that lol. I was a lot more careful after that, it was our forum server and people were frantically emailing me telling me the site was down.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'm always too paranoid to do it that way, but if you're moving to another rig with an appropriate version of Cpanel (i.e. an expected upgrade path) and have done everything the "Cpanel way" (not going too far outside the box) in theory you should just be able to seamlessly restore the entire appliance using your backup archives. (or sites individually should be safer)Quoting: GroganCongrats on the smooth move (no, this isn't an Ex-Lax advert lol) :-)It was pretty dashed smooth, wasn't it? Normally I expect a bit of weird stuff during a transition.

Lutris game manager v0.5.14 adds EA App integration, expanded Flatpak support

If you use Lutris' scripts to install games, you'll find yourself in a broken home much of the time. That's the biggest problem I see people having.
I love Lutris (been using it for 5 years), but I set up wine prefixes and install games manually (using "run exe in wine prefix", winetricks if I need any Microsoft files etc.)

Yeah, I just realized the other night that the version bumped. I roll up a lutris package from their git repo once a week'ish or so. I don't remember when, but I've had that EA App in the left pane for some time. I don't use anything there, I just install games/clients manually.
Yes, tiles and icons mostly get downloaded automatically. For some strange reason, there are a few that just won't do it. I've deliberately left them grey, because I want to see when or if if ever finds something. It seems to use some pretty fuzzy logic to search for images. I just happened to remember this text (it's from someone else's logs in a forum) as it jumped out at me as unsurprising that it's unreliable.
Look how it finally settled on "the-wolf-among-us.jpg"
Sometimes it takes a few days, then suddenly on one library refresh a game tile will fill itself in.
The only Lutris tiles I have that have never filled in are:
Beyond: Two Souls
Fallout 3
Fallout 4
Visage
Odd that Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 can't get a tile.

Quoting: whizseThe game is also apparently popular among farmers just for trying out equipment before buying the real thing:Now there's something I didn't know, that the simulator was that nuanced with equipment that people would correlate it with the real machinery. Even with specs, if that's really apt, I'm impressed.

There's a Canadian Tire store, but they don't carry the inventory that they used to. (It's right next to the Walmart Superstore lol).
Even "The Source" (used to be Radio Shack in Canada) is gone now. There's no place in town to buy all those connectors and things you'd have gone there for.
I don't leave the premises much anymore... if I need something, it's only an online order away. To blazes with those department stores. Any surviving little downtown shops need to have something to survive, but quite frankly I don't have a lot of time for the small town arrogance anymore either. I'm not a tourist (the main purpose of the town). A lot of places don't even stock a lot of inventory, "we can get it for you". Yeah, well, so can I, faster and cheaper than you.
I'm about to order friggen pizza from Pizzas Hut online. (The mom and pop diners, drive-ins and pizza joints are mostly gone too)

Quoting: redneckdrowWalmart and Kroger's are literally the only places people can shop for certain things, and run any other prospective stores out of town. I hate it!We have actual grocery stores, but yes, Walmart displaced a lot of businesses. That's the only place in town that sells games (Xbox, Playstation, PC too for some titles, at least back then, but most people don't buy like that anymore). If you drive about 40 minutes, on the other side of a nearby city, there are EB Games and their sister store Gamestop, but it's Walmart or nothing in this town for a lot of goods.

For those who like games with violent acts so brutal they are comedy, Wolfenstein II The New Colossus is something I highly recommend. It's a good, somewhat linear style campaign with lots of fun shooting etc.
(Buy one for the wife and kids and everyone lol)

Farming Simulator lol
I've got a funny story about that. We've got a Walmart Superstore here in town. The surrounding area is rural, with a lot of farms. Some bright minded exec sent shelves and shelves of Farming Simulator boxed games, yet no latest Call of Duty titles and stuff that people actually wanted. I laughed out loud when I saw literally hundreds of copies of Farming Simulator that they couldn't give away. (Games are usually behind glass, but not these lol)
Talk about being out of touch. They think rural kids are going to want Farming Simulator instead of those awful violent games. Guffaw...
(I don't mean to make fun of the game actually, it not for me and would be stupid to a local teen, but there are actual "International Plowing Matches" and it's a thing to a lot of people)

The only visual artifacts I had were the yucky motion blur (I found it blurring things and not unblurring some more distant trees etc until I pan around... despite having view distance at the highest).
I also forgot to mention some yucky bloom effects. I found some surfaces (e.g. a cut piece of wood reflecting light) to be inappropriately bright. An icy piece of wood might be a little reflective, but it shouldn't be glowing like a light bulb. Turning Bloom down to Low (doesn't let you disable) solved that.
P.S. I use X11, a very simple window manager (icewm) with no compositing and mesa git master a few days old, current kernel/amdgpu. I have a radeon RX 570 card.

Quoting: GuestI am guessing you don't have the black screen flickering going on that I've mentioned? No, I don't have that behaviour (and if I did it would be unacceptable)
