Now that's pretty cool. I hope he enjoyed it, too.

Well.. that ship has already sailed. Few studios want to do Linux ports of games and there is no carrot that will make them want to. We had basically nothing for a decade (since the good old days of Icculus). I'd also have to question how much money is in it for third parties porting games, like Feral. It's not like they get paid to do it, they pay for the privilege under license, hoping for a return on sales. In many cases they don't even get that, existing owners of the game just get a free download of the Linux port.
I thought that way too. I was vehemently against Wine, to the point of admonishment, for those reasons. I scoffed at Valve's SteamPlay at first too, until I actually tried it and saw how much running games under wine had improved.
Now I'm just glad to be playing almost every game I'd ever want without having to keep a Windows install around. To blazes with philosophy.

Well... any company that refuses to upload a damned file because they don't want to "support Linux" is actively hostile in my books, and will be treated as such. They'll never get a dime of my money, and I'll do what I can to discourage others.

In this day and age, there are instant, no questions asked refunds available for games. So tricking someone into buying a bad game by withholding demos, doctoring trailers (not showing actual gameplay) and suppressing reviews won't necessarily help revenue.
Nowadays, if I'm disgusted with a game in the first 30 to 60 minutes, I know it's going back. Even if it's just $10 in a desperation sale, I'm sending that message.

I bought this game last night. It installed seemingly normally, but when I went to run it, it failed with (something like) "could not update this game... invalid app configuration". It was trying to run a not yet available Linux version. Under Compatibility I forced Proton 6.3-8, it did a small download, probably some config, and then the game configured itself and works perfectly. I will await the Linux port.
I enjoyed what I played of it last night. The graphics are comic bookish, but it looks quite good flying around against a backdrop of roiling seas, clouds and mist and lighting changes. I found it somewhat tranquil, and on Easy mode the missions seem pretty forgiving.

About the netbooks... they came with a crappy, dumbed down Linux user interface. It was garbage. You could install a real 32 bit distro though, with enough room to spare even on one of those 8 Gb flash storage models (mine had a 120 Gb hard drive and a 6 cell battery, before Microsoft nerfed the weight allowance to qualify as a "netbook" for their special licensing).
I made some very negative people happy with it, they were surprised that "Linux wasn't shit" when I was done. Their wifi even worked :-)
Soon after these Atom devices emerged, Microsoft brought Windows XP out of retirement and licensed it to netbook vendors, to combat them shipping with Linux. That soon changed to "starter editions" of Vista then Windows 7. They were both awful on that hardware.

They are still selling Quake because of this too.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPYes, but then how could you make money with it?By continuing to sell copies of an old game because people still need the data files? That's pretty much how it is right now with some titles. For a recent example, I bought Doom 3 BFG edition on Steam because I needed the data directory for RBDoom-3-BFG which I compiled. It's not the first either, the original Doom 3 had a similar project, "Dhewm 3"
(I know the answer, and that open source doesn't exclude selling a product, but many bored lawyers and clueless executives have no intention of ever understanding this)

There's a name I haven't heard in a long time, I'm glad he's still working on Linux gaming. Back in the good old days, he was the guy for porting Linux games. I played a lot of them.
Some of his work still runs perfectly to this day, even if the Loki installers don't. For example, Unreal Tournament 2004... in one of his patches he included a 64 bit build. I still run that SAME game (with the directory copied to new computers over the years) on a pure 64 bit system simply by dropping some older 64 bit libraries in the program directory. (e.g. libstdc++.so.5)

Zink driver for OpenGL over Vulkan adds more game support like Metro: Last Light

Yes, I probably agree. I don't use a lot of OpenGL games anymore (and the ones I have are older) but with amdgpu and mesa (Polaris10) I have been happy. This certainly wasn't always the case with AMD (on Linux/fglrx or Windows for that matter).

I'm not sure why Nvidia users would want to use Zink, when the proprietary Nvidia driver ships with a good OpenGL implementation. (unless someone is talking about nouveau)
Perhaps of interest to have it working, but I can't see it being a practical improvement.
