Sorry, but that Chrome UI is bloated rubbish. I can't stand it. You think that's light weight?
It's also fragile in that it gets broken due to library changes. Steam bundles libraries that have to interface with your system. APIs change, Chrome UI breaks.
Yes, I have had it happen. A recent example was harfbuzz/freetype and it broke the user interface.

Great... nobody has to buy games. Assholes would do well to remember that.
I will not buy anything that uses Denuvo.

The lanes mean more bandwidth, not speed that you'll measure. Bottleneck that, and it becomes apparent. I don't think you will hit that with a typical NVME drive.
Ever install a video card in a x4 or x8 slot by mistake? Lots of motherboards have some of the graphics cards slots pinned like that.
You'd hardly know it, it's really subtle. It takes a game that really moves a lot of data before something even feels off. The one that made me notice is that ridiculous Borderlands 3 with its bloated (yet ugly) textures.
As for changes to hardware without notice, without changes in model number... D-Link used to burn my ass with their NIC chipsets. You had no way of knowing if you were getting a Sundance Alta chipset, VIA Rhine, or Realtek 8139 when you ordered them. This made a difference not only in what kernel driver you needed, but some of them WORKED better than others.

Steam is really an awful program on Linux. It should get a complete rewrite instead of the cobbled together kludge that it is.
All its gyrations and spinning wheels on startup, culminates in an absolutely sickening, bloated, fragile, chrome browser-based UI.
I'm not sure having the source code to the client would help you :-)

Proton 7.0-3 is out further improving compatibility on Steam Deck and Linux

Also, when the native ports get broken (which they usually will, if not updated) it's damned nice to be able to fall back to Proton.
I've got lots of games like that, they have native ports but they just insta-segfault or performance/behaviour/appearance is hinkey now. Go to install a game you haven't played in a few years only to find it won't run. A recent example was Bioshock Infinite for me, but that was a crappy runtime translated port anyway and it works better with Proton than it ever did native. At the time I thought "add another one to the list".
I also still have to use Metro Exodus with Proton, because they inconsiderately baked in AVX2 instructions into the Linux port. (I'm not upgrading perfectly good hardware, with today's scarcity and arbitrary prices, my nehalem Corei7 is still capable enough if not for AVX. It's of course only a problem for games I can't compile, I don't use any other binary software)

I'll pay more for a game to get it on my desired store platform (for my own convenience). Sometimes that's Steam, or GoG depending on circumstances of the game. There was also a time where it was more practical for me to buy some games from EA/Origin but that time has long passed. I prefer to buy those on Steam too nowadays, at least then it will just use the thin client and keep Origin out of my face. I'd still have the option to install it in an Origin client anyway, EA knows what games I own on Steam because the accounts are linked. Hell, I've chosen to buy games on Steam that I could have gotten for free on Origin lol
I don't see why Valve would delist games for being sold cheaper elsewhere, that wouldn't help them at all. (obviously they'll get zero sales from those games if they don't sell them). That sounds like bollocks to me.

Good Old Games Week is live on GOG with a sale

I appreciated the heads up about the sale. I spent a fair bit of time going through their catalog today, a lot of stuff on sale. I love buying games from GoG, I just wish more publishers would sell that way. (Truth be told, there's not much that I want that I don't already have right now anyway)
I ended up buying Cloudpunk, not on sale and more than it costs on Steam. Worth it to have standalone, offline installers for Lutris though. It sounds like a relaxing game that I'm going to enjoy.

They still owe me for the first one. Insultingly stupid and disrespectful of my time. I played through a few different scenarios in hopes that there was going to be more to it, but none of them were interesting. I did like the narrator (that's what attracted me to it in the first place), but that got old, fast amidst the annoyance of the game. Harsh, but that's how I feel about that game.
I don't even care about the cost of a game. I'll give you $100 if a game substantially entertains me and I'll buy it 12:01 AM on release day if it's something I have been wanting.
Very nice that they did a Linux port though. I sincerely appreciate that, though I won't personally be playing it.

Yes, the Steam Deck will eventually get Ray Tracing, once the AMD GPU driver matures

A lot of ray tracing screenshots you see are proof of concept, but for games that seriously use it, it is detrimental to a game if you can't use it. I've got two games that have annoying lighting because it's meant to be dithered with ray tracing. Yes, Control is one of them. Cyberpunk 2077 is the other.
Even a bit of software driven ray tracing could help with that.

If I had to use their game client, why would I buy games from GoG? I would just buy it on Steam, which is at least a good store platform and provides good services to users.
It seems GoG has been trying to have their cake and eat it too, so to speak. There's content I don't get for Cyberpunk2077 because I don't use the Galaxy client, but it's nothing I care about. It was disappointing in the sense that it felt like the beginning of the end, though.
I like GoG because I can just set up a game in Lutris and play it hassle free, irrespective of internet connectivity. I started buying as many games as possible from GoG, because I found myself with few games I could play one night while my cable was out. I only play single player games, I don't like multiplayer. Specifically I don't like being obligated to anyone else in any way, with gaming.
