Total War: THREE KINGDOMS is out and it comes with same-day Linux support

Nice. I checked a few hours after it released and the Linux version wasn't up yet so I went to bed.

I'm not surprised at the performance since they had all of that extra time.

We might actually see a rough Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation beta for Linux soon

Quoting: pete910At this rate Star Citizen will be done before they get this ready :P
I was so excited for this game all those years ago. I've given up hope that this will ever have a native Linux version. Although, this would be a great game for Google Stadia :)

Quoting: dpanterStill haven't forgiven the devs for abandoning the excellent formula in Train Valley 1. :><:

Maybe I'll give this a new chance someday. They do support Linux with both games, which is awesome.
Why would you want the same game again? Changing the formula is a great thing for gaming.

Imagine if they didn't add heroes to Warcraft III?

Games have been promising this sort of thing for years. It was called "emergent gameplay" a decade ago. I also have yet to see any game fulfill any of the lofty "emergent gameplay" promises made by developers. I think the best we've seen is the NPCs in the Grand Theft Auto series reacting in unexpected but not particularly meaningful ways.
The NPCs in Shenmue would leave for work or go out into town and come back at night. That was awesome for 1999. Zelda: Breath of the Wild also added this and it really added to the feeling of the game.

I agree with you that in 20 years it hasn't been improved upon at all and that is disappointing. Hopefully this game can pull through and make a truly immersive world that is different for everyone.

The open source game manager Lutris had another sweet update recently

I use it to mostly play Blizzard games through wine and it works well.

The installers for games work but need improvement. I've tried to update the scripts myself but I've found them not intuitive. This is concerning considering I've been coding for 25 years.

The interface is also not intuitive and it took me a while to figure out how to get anything working.

With that said, I still gladly contribute to Lutris monthly. It is so much easier to get a game installed and working than if you tried to get it working on your own.

Quoting: tonRKinda off-topic but kinda relevant, just now I came across on r/pcgaming subreddit about, "Is 8gb of ram no longer enough to play a game with browsers open? It seems like Firefox and chrome eat up 40-60% of my ram" [External Link]

So GoL users... what's our opinions on this? For me, I think 8GB RAM on Linux are nearly to it's limit but still enough for at least 1-2 years..

FYI, Firefox (my default browser) in my computer are running at 100 - 300 MB, Vivaldi 100 - 500MB (as it's basically a modified Chrome, correct me if I'm wrong) and Midori at 50 - 200 MB. Usually, I'm running 1-3 tabs on Firefox and rarely exceed 10 tabs. Not using Chrome/Chromium anymore since late 2016.
I run the latest games on my 8 year old desktop that has 6GB of ram with no issues.

I have a GeForce 950 and I can run most games on the highest or close to highest settings with 30 FPS.

It also helps that KDE is great with memory these days compared to Windows.

CodeWeavers have released CrossOver 18.5 pulling in Wine 4.0 and FAudio

I've used crossover as a trial a few times over the years. The software works very well and I was able to play Warcraft III and Starcraft II by just clicking a button.

With that said, I find $40 for what you get way over priced and I've never been able to justify paying that much for what you get.

I've been using Lutris instead and I find it more useful for my needs. I even pay $5 a month to support it which is more than the $40 crossover asks for.

Linux Gaming News Punch - Episode 3

The episodes have not shown up for me with Pocket casts.

I deleted the old feed and it is not showing up at all. I know other feeds have had this problem with Pocket casts and the feed owners have had to get in touch with them to fix it.
