@sonic2kk - yeah I had the same initial reactions / feelings in the first year after launch. It was (still is and will always be) NOTHING AT ALL remotely even close to what they claimed it would be. Very similar to No Man's Sky in that regard. Everyone involved knew full well they were lying through their teeth but they just kept lying.
Fast forward to the big 1.5 patch, and I gave it a try. It was so much fun! I just had to get over the fact that it wasn't anything like what I was expecting, and it was just pretty much another ubi open world questapalooza. But so well done for what it was. I had a blast playing it from start to finish.

This game is always the topmost #1 entry in every single package management app ever because of its name, so I have been seeing this app listed in stores for YEARS.
Kinda makes me want to try it out even though RTS' aren't even my thing.

It really is such an awesome game. The story is laughable, but everything else is just so well done. (well. *most* everything else lol)
I don't know how you stopped part-way through Liam! Once it got its hooks into me, I was done for. Finished it without touching anything else.

Honestly I just think changing the name AT ALL while already having done multiple next fests, tons of announcements, early access launch, etc... is just a horrible idea. Now when this game launches, if it was on someones wishlist, they won't even know wtf it is. "huh heroes of what? I don't remember adding this? delete."

I absolutely LOVED Avowed and can't recommend it enough. Yes, it does have its issues, but what game doesn't. The biggest for me was what @theriddick mentioned - npc's and towns don't feel alive or "real". It would take quite a big update to fix this though, but maybe they will. The other biggie for me was unique weapons were so limited, but this update at least addresses that a bit.
For the good: there's just so much. It's gorgeous. It also seems to me to be the best implementation of ue5 EVER. Like no contest. The Obsidian devs somehow have some dark sorcery code in there that makes the engine run well, that seemingly ever other studio on earth cannot figure out.
The story is really well done and engaging. Characters have depth and the side quests for your party is really fun and gives them more depth. Some of it is quite sad and emotional.
The lore and the world itself .... omg. Just .... absolutely fantastic. I've always loved Eora and its unique world setting, and they just embrace it here. Soooooo well done.
The "hey what's that over there" feeling is alive and well. It's jam packed with secrets, and side quests and stuff to stumble upon, etc. Love it.
So much more too !!! Really really enjoyed my time playing it.

Wow, that's surprising. I really liked the old name personally. It was at least interesting. Who's the siren? Why does it need silencing or was silenced? New name is just a rip off of HoMM ... !!
I suppose they are correct that it'll get them more initial clicks. Will that transition to more sales?

@such huh ... thanks for the info. I guess they have done a really good job with the controller based ui. Yeah I agree that the desktop "wall of icons" isn't great, but I'm not sure what other way to do it? I do kinda want access to all those spells and items. I'm glad it worked for you handheld!

this might be the first ever complex rpg I would consider for the Deck. I still to this day can't fathom how people can play stuff like bg3 on a tiny screen with a controller, but it remains one of the top played games. So I must be totally crazy. This games graphics won't stress the deck at all, and as long as the UI is decent with a controller scheme, it could be fun nostalgia.

As @expandingman mentioned - I had to refund it because it literally wouldn't even start. Just immediate crashing - countless other reports of the same, on the steam discussions, protondb, basically everywhere.
Seems like a fun game, I had a good time with the demo as well, but LOL at these devs. Just what on earth.
@liam - I also tried windowed mode, wouldn't work. Didn't try gamescope, but there are just so many bad reports about this game, I just wanted my money back at that point.

@scaine - thanks! And yeah, I know, some of them who knows. I guess I was just listing my favs.
And hahaha, oh hell no that's not the entire list, just my top favs. I was gonna make a top10, but then went past it and just figured what the hell. I just checked and I have a total of 136 games on my wishlist.
