Fedora Linux devs discuss dropping 32-bit packages - potentially bad news for Steam gamers

^ My second favorite series of all time :) (the first being where I got the name on this account from)

Still to this day feels very prescient:

"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

or my all time fav:

"Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.”

Don't Panic.

@sddt no it doesn't, mine lists F42 as the OS in that tool. Maybe older versions of steam or Fedora misreported it?

Stalker 2 version 1.5 actually sorts out the A-Life AI system, and modding support is here

I would love to play this game, but it's unplayable to me due to the developers being hilariously incompetent, and I just checked: they still haven't fixed the issue. LOL.

The problem is that I play with a numpad (I have a southpaw keyboard) for every single game ever. This is the ONLY game I've ever played that has an an entire shitload of hardcoded keys that CANNOT be rebound, or even worse, aren't even listed in the settings, so you CAN rebind other stuff to them, and then you do multiple things in-game when you press a button. Like, open a container, but also turn the flashlight on, or some other dumb shit like that.

All this time later, still no word on this, the most basic game development 101 issue of all time. How hard is it for a studio to allow people to rebind their keys? For these devs, impossible.

This also makes the game entirely unplayable for left handed people, since a lot of them have normal keyboards with the numpads on the right.

I'm on Fedora right now, so this is awful news! What on earth.

I wonder why Steam is dragging their feet so much on making the move to 64?

Looking at those stats is pretty amazing, it's basically all two distros: arch & ubuntu. If they do adopt this change for f44, I'll be forced to migrate somewhere else, and since I don't want to go back to any form of rolling release, I guess it'll be kubuntu for me? I'm not sure.

Also, I wonder what GE will do? His ENTIRE distro Nobara is based off of Fedora!!!!!!!!!! He'll have to migrate the base to something else, or do some weird hackery, or just drop it entirely? Man this is so crazy.

SteamWorld Dig is free to claim and keep, with later games heavily discounted

When I first got the Steam Deck, I immediately got engrossed in Dig 1 and Dig 2. Absolutely amazing games. It wasn't until I finished both of those until I realized what a massive error I had made. I had started with some of the best games ever! Still to this day haven't found another game quite like Dig 2. I keep hoping and wishing someday they'll make a Dig 3, but haven't ever heard any news about it.

Proton 10.0-2 gets a Release Candidate for gaming on Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck

I've had everything on proton experimental for years now, and it runs wonderfully, no issues. So I'll keep it there. Feels like the perfect balance to me. Like I'm currently using 10 but it's not "officially released" yet. But still no issues!

And I'll pile on to the "it just works" group. I can remember probably around 2012/13/14 I tried linux full time and wasn't happy with it. I had to tinker with EVERYTHING. Had audio issues, drive formatting issues, games needed custom parameters, some games flat out wouldn't run at all, there weren't good replacements for windows apps I needed, etc etc.

Then sometime around 2020 I again made the switch full time because I was so sick and tired of the Microsoft garbage being forced down my throat and no ability to do anything about it. I really felt like microsoft owned my computer and allowed me to use it, but only exactly how they said. It was radically different. Everything just worked! No problems with games, no general os tinkering, replacement apps had come along really far, etc.

Now in 2025, it's like a no-brainer. I really honestly think for a personal computer at home, for all the "average" non-techy people out there (muggles) in your friends & family group, linux is totally an option.

If they're needing a new computer, you can get a framework13 (all amd) for $900 which is AMAZING. Put Mint on that, call it day. Tell them to text you if they need anything. I bet you won't get many texts!

Been playing this on the Deck in bed, while my wife watches her murders (her fav show of all time law n order and she watches all the variants on a loop omgoodness) and I've been LOVING it~!!!! It's got that perfect amount of relaxation as you mentioned. The environments are truly amazing, and I love how different each location is. I'm only on the second location, but yeah, the upgrade loop keeps me going.

Highly recommended!

It's so crazy, because even though I don't really like boaty things in real life (fishing, houseboats, rafting, kayaking, etc etc etc) some of my favorite and most played games on the Deck have been boaty. Dredge, Sail Forth, Dave the Diver, this game .... So strange. Maybe the portable format just leads more to that type of game I guess.

I've used 2fas auth for what I feel like is forever and ever and have loved it. It's open source, no account required, works offline, syncs backup automatically, totally free to use (optional donation), doesn't run a for profit model, etc etc etc.
