This whole thing reminds me of the openoffice/libreoffice split all those years ago. I remember at the time going "whoa, this is a huge deal" and not being sure how it would all work out.
Now, a bunch of years later, libreoffice is THE defacto gold standard, it's used and liked (mostly lol) everywhere, and I haven't even heard of openoffice in an eternity. I did just now look it up, but it looks like abandonware. Apparently Apache runs it? But it hasn't been updated in two years.

This is wonderful news! I'm glad the team decided to make positive moves and get away from the ai-garbage-slop and a dickhead team lead.
The regular zdoom page still tells people to go download gzdoom, but I'm hopeful over time they'll change that recommendation or at least add uzdoom.

@Purple Library Guy ... huh, I didn't think of the font stuff. And he does a lot of document work currently in office365. Thankfully, the company he freelances for the most has already told everyone they're ending their subscriptions to o365 at the end of the year and they expect everyone to use LibreOffice from then on out and whatever file syncing/sharing service they want. So he was already planning on moving off of office, BUT that is a really good point on fonts. Damn. Thank you though for mentioning it because now I can get in front of that problem!

LOL that's true!
So this'll be an interesting experiment. Here are the people I'm moving to Mint from win10:
1 - 44 yr old close friend - very tech savvy - mostly used for work - should be easy I think.
2 - his ~75 yr old mother - least tech savvy human being on earth - but only uses computer for solitaire and email, nothing else. I think I can make it work.
3 - 60 yr old close friend - medium tech savvy - laptop is older but works totally fine - I think this is the one I'm most worried about.

WOOOO! I love a good next fest!!! Always discover some cool new games :)
side note: something is super wrong with the steam desktop app for the next fest home page. At least for me. The top recommendations for me are "parkour time attack anime third person" games. I have absolutely zero interest in that whatsoever, and have exactly 0 games in my library with those tags.
Then moving down, the next recommended category is "minigames games" (terrible recommendation) and the next recommended category after that is "soundtrack games" (terrible recommendation) and then it goes to "all titles".
It's like they swapped my recommendation profile for a total stranger?

I'm moving several friends over to linux because of the hilarious shoot-self-in-foot fiasco by microsoft, and I'm using Mint for all of them. Seems the most user friendly coming from windows.

It's just a sad decision for me, because I would LOVE to play this for a few mins at night on my Deck, but without a proper camera angle, it's not going to happen, so maybe I'll check back in a year or so and see if they eventually added it.
