Quoting: Ehvis
Quoting: JarmerI primarily use three devices, so here's what I use:

- linux desktop: Librewolf / Orion beta
Librewolf is a Firefox version, so still lives or dies by what happens to Mozilla. So I don't see that as much of a difference. And I'm not to familiar with the webkit politics. At the end of the day it is an Apple thing and I see Apple as a much bigger threat than Mozilla due to its size. You can argue webkit is open source, but so is chromium and shows the scars of its google dependency, so that doesn't mean much.

As you mentioned, ideally you'd want something that is truly independent and that can't be influenced by tech giants, but that's not realistic at this time. So for now a Mozilla dependency seems the least problematic, whether it is through Firefox or one of its custom builds.
All of what you've said is exactly right, and I agree with all of it.

But at the end of the day: I'm just doing the best I can ... and to me, avoiding vanilla FF and vanilla Webkit is a good idea. Chrome / chromium anything doesn't even enter the picture. So ... librewolf / orion is the best I can think of in early 2026.

Quoting: EhvisYou can say that, but what then?

I absolutely love what Kagi is doing with Orion, so at least for now I'm very happy with that. In the future Servo / Ladybird might be great alternatives as well, just not there yet as of today.

Intel hiring GPU driver engineers for Linux

Quoting: M@GOidAbout their requirement for on site work, they better change it if they want to get good and experienced workers. People are fed up with jobs that involve long, daily commuting but can easily be done from home. After all, AMD does have people on their team that work remotely and they have done pretty well.
moreso for me it just instantly limits the pool of available candidates by like 90% (or more?) ... any person with a family can't just instantly uproot themselves and move to a MUCH MUCH MUCH more expensive location for a job that may or may not work out long term. Doubly so for a company such as Intel who might not even exist in a few years. So therefore, you get to pick from whoever is available locally. SO. STUPID.

Inspired by the classic DOOM RPG, the Dungeons of DUSK demo is out now

LOL I had the same weird full screen issues - it kept forcing itself into a small window. But whatever, I don't think I'd play this game on my desktop, I think I'd play this game on my deck where that wouldn't be an issue. Seems perfect for the deck.

I played it for a few mins this morning then promptly uninstalled it. Loved it! It was enough for me to know that I'll be getting it day 1 on launch and can wait patiently until then :)

I'm glad they added this, but for me: too little too late / the train has left the station / the horse is out of the barn / [insert saying here] ...... I'm never going to use FF again. Sorry mozilla :(

Steam Next Fest - February 2026 is live with tons of demos

Deep Snow Delivery looks great! Adding that to my demo list.

Yesterday I tried Ardenfall & Replaced. LOVE LOVE LOVE replaced! Will 100% be getting that. The art / visuals / sound is off the charts amazingly good. Ardenfall has some bizarre graphical stretching at the edges that was super distracting (which I hope they fix) but otherwise DEFINITELY has the morrowind vibes.

WOOOO NEXT FEST!!!!!!!!!!

that starship troopers game looks cool, gonna add that to my list of demos. Thanks :)

Here's my list of interests / demos that I'm going to try out (same as my post in cyberspace.online)

  • Ardenfall [External Link] - "first-person RPG inspired by Morrowind" - you had me at morrowind (one of my all time favs)

  • REPLACED [External Link] - a 2d side scroller cyberpunk adventure. Art / lore / story / visuals look absolutely killer awesome.

  • SpaceCraft [External Link] - I'm a sucker for a good space sim. I'm not much on base building or logistics though, so this could go either way for me.

  • Chipmatic [External Link] - "incremental factory building game where you control a mining robot" - looks like a really cool digging game for the steam deck

  • Dead Fibers [External Link] - looks / sounds kind of like a fps immersive sim? That's one of my fav genres, but hard to do right, so we shall see.

What's everyone else got on their radar?

Get A Plague Tale: Innocence & Requiem, Evil West and more in the Focus Entertainment Humble Bundle

Just going to pile on: Plague Tales are SO GOOD. Very much looking forward to the 3rd game this year / next year. I'd never heard of the others, but from looking: Atlas Fallen & Shady Part of Me look pretty cool. And those prices are insane good.

Mesa 25.3.6 released as the last bug fix for this driver series
23 Feb 2026 at 2:53 pm UTC Likes: 1

I just updated my system today, on cachy arch, and I'm still on 25.3.5 ... so I bet they're waiting on the .0.1 release to do the move to 26. I'm pretty excited for that to see how RT functions now. I don't think I've ever played a game with it turned on before LOL. I still think it's mostly marketing but we shall see.

This is wonderful! It makes me so happy to see intel continue to put effort into the arc gpus. Competition is good for all of us.

This does seem like a job perfectly fit for remote work, but it is listed as in person in CA / OR which is sad, but oh well. At least they're hiring for it!
