all hail the fake frames?
I have never and will never use any form of frame generation or upscaling. If I wanted to play my games on a 480p monitor, I would have bought a 480p monitor and a 3dfx voodoo gfx card from 1998.

It's (as its always been) just a popularity contest. I liken it to a high school play production or something. The cool kids get the acting role but the real people doing the actual work putting on the show are behind the scenes getting no recognition.

Thank you so much everyone for all the insight! This is super helpful. So I think I will definitely look at doing the following sometime in 2027 / 2028:
1) steam machine in living room under tv.
2) some form of storage server (dell poweredge or similar) with whatever is at the time the cheapest way to get to around 100 tb worth of wd red nas drives (or similar at the time). And have this running something like OMV.
3) install plex and jellyfin on the steam machine and network connect all the directories from the storage server.
Not sure if I'll continue using the current wd red drives I have or if I will spring for new ones as the current ones will be 7 / 8 yrs old. But new ones are SO EXPENSIVE. It'll be almost $2k to get 100tb worth of those damn things.
Thanks again everyone!

@supay you think a storage server like that would be better/cheaper than an off the shelf NAS device? (pretty much the same thing at the end of the day I guess)

I was just thinking: in 2 yrs my htpc will be 7 yrs old, so starting to show a little bit of age. I will probably look at replacing it around then. I have roughly 60tb of local storage that I use constantly (and I mean almost constantly with friends and family streaming stuff from my plex to them) and will probably want to upgrade that storage to around 100tb.
Right now my htpc is just a regular old gigantor pc case stuffed full of wd red spinning drives due to cost and a mid range gpu so my buddy and I can play couch games. That works fine with the current setup, but it really does require a humungo monstrous and loud case to house all the components.
What would a replacement look like that for this that could utilize the steam machine? I'd need some form of 100tb external enclosure? Locally connected via ... something? Or just networked as a nas? Would it suffer performance wise that way? I should research all this.

welp, that's the end of the cities skylines franchise forever. Sadness. CS1 was so damn good. I played with a friend at his house, and it felt like we were back in 1995 with a crt and playing simcity releasing tornadoes everywhere LOL
I never did play cs2 because the launch was so miserable, I was waiting on the game to become in a more enjoyable less horrible state, and then just eventually gave up and stopped paying any attention. No idea what state the game is in now, but I guess by this news: still horrible?
Sad to see stuff like this happen.

What is wrong with me?What has worked for me when I get in this very exactly the same situation (where no games "click" with me and I just wind up putting them down after a tiny bit over and over again) ... I try a different medium. I will pick back up any one of the bazillion scifi books I have on my to-read list, go through 2 or 3 of those and BAM I've got the bigtime itch for a good story heavy turn based rpg. Or start watching a series with my wife (I almost never watch tv normally). Stuff like that. Small breaks always work wonders for me.
Why am I not excited anymore?
