Wine on Wayland sounds like it's coming along nicely
13 Dec 2022 at 7:59 pm UTC

I had some pretty mixed experience running (vanilla) Wine on Wayland. Of the two games I tried, one had missing UI elements, the other just hang after the intro.

Now, admittedly this was a niche use-case (running old pre-D3D9 games) and some of these issues might be specific to my system and/or build.

What's positive is that wine-wayland had less issues than (Wine with) Xwayland. Both games ran without problem. I'm also quite impressed by the development pace of wine-wayland it seems to progress much faster than I had anticipated!

Quoting: KlaasThat's my understanding as well. If dxvk dlls are used the game should behave like a Vulkan game inside wine.
Yeah, I'm getting less and less sure about my statement. I'll make a full retraction.

Quoting: mrdeathjrat simple seek affects winevulkan but if you have dxvk in theory must be save
As I understand it, this regression is in winevulkan. It affects Windows games that uses Vulkan natively such as DOOM and the later Wolfensteins.

Quoting: TermyI'm not sure how you compiled the first chart in this article and can't find another statistic of that sort, but i would be really surprised if that curve didn't go down in the last months/years.
There were 1380 Linux native games released (so far) on Steam in 2022.

In 2021 there were 1222, and in 2020 1104.

SteamDB [External Link] is very handy for these searches!

I'm still working on improving my German, but from what I gather from the bottom text this list contains working titles and project codenames too.

I have tried it on the PC as well and the same thing...

Now I have to find a way to make it work ....

Any ideas???
Video issues. It seems to be broken both on Proton [External Link] and with vanilla Wine [External Link].

There's a workaround described here [External Link]. Falling back to an older Proton release and (I assume) using mf-install [External Link] to add the needed mfplat dlls.

Quoting: MinuxBy the way, now that they released this version... I've read a bit about it, but what would be exactly the difference between Proton Experimental and Proton 7.0-5? Could someone elaborate a bit about it? What pros and cons for each version? Which one would you recommend?
If you follow the link to the changelog [External Link] in the article, there's an overview of the differences between Experimental and 7.0-5.

The biggest changes are probably that Experimental ships with much newer releases of dxvk and vkd3d-proton but have higher driver requirements.
