It's always nice to see doujinsoft gets recognition even from people outside fandom.

People always creating random cool stuff from franchise they love, which the best part of otaku/ACG culture.

Steam Deck hitting retail stores in Japan from April 29th, South Korea to follow

Nice!
I hope this will lead to many doujinsoft developer have Linux release in the future! Not to forget their own local game store as well.

For context, doujinsoft (≈indie games) in Japan are like their own world. They have their own distribution platoform with more experimental game scene that you will never see on international platform like itch.io or GameJolt. Yet, only less than 10% actually released globally, especially the one catering to Akiba-kei otaku --"

Most of those doujinsoft are only released to platform like DLsite (Windows-only DRM site 👎), booth.pm, Freem, or Tyrano's Novel Game Collection.

I heard Chinese, Taiwan, and South Korean also have their own unique platform with their own interpretation of gaming culture :)

Forspoken gets an update to improve Steam Deck performance

Forspoken regional pricing lol, it's half of the minimum wage in my country... (in certain city, if I want to be pedantic).

Valve finally clears up Steam game release dates, also adjusts pricing

Quoting: ArehandoroNearly 500% increase for Turkey and Argentina...
Plus a 100% taxes in Argentina.
Isn't Steam pricing already include tax?

When tax for games is introduced in my country (Indonesia), Steam said that it already counted in final pricing; without even any additional price change.

No more Steam Deck reservation queue — buy it now, plus Docking Station available

We’ve also examined the process that led to the previous decision about CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, and made some changes to avoid situations like this in the future.”

No more Steam Deck reservation queue — buy it now, plus Docking Station available

Quoting: GuestThe price of the docking station is absurd.
People who keep saying that Valve is "the good guy" will get a rude awakening once more questionable decisions will be made.
I will go with the JSAUX dock instead.
They already have questionable decisions like bias towards Japanese visual novel. There's numerous case for cancelling/rejecting visual release that not even rated for adult, while in the same time Steam have games like Sex with Hitler or other porn games.

Visual novel fans have been criticizing Steam decision for ages.
The last one is Chaos;Head Noah despite having zero adult content

It's kind of funny when they want to capture Japanese market with Steam Deck, yet keep making this decision.

Valve overhauls the Steam Store with new categories, hubs and filtering

What I thinking is lacking right now from Steam discovery system:
- Missing country tag.
Different culture, different story telling, more ways to discover truly unique gem.

- Anime tag is used too broadly.
After all there's no single definition of anime style in art context.
Is Junji Itou-inspired games is anime style? What about Pokemon-style game?
It feels like Anime tag is used by Western standard of anime.

Anime-tagged games from Japan, South Korea, China, and Western are often entirely different thing.
Different country origin = different interpretation of Akiba culture.

- Country language tag.
A lot of games are supporting various language that are not included in Steam language choice, especially open source one.
Heck, Indonesian, which is one of the most used spoken language still doesn't have proper tag. The only way to discover them is via curator.

Survival game Vintage Story adds 200+ new blocks, lightning, water physics update

Quoting: CatKillerIf being on Steam gets you 43% more sales than not being on Steam, then the 30% pays for itself, even ignoring the saving in hosting and bandwidth costs. Everyone's free to make their own decisions of course, but "I'm not putting my game on Steam because I'd like to make more money" isn't a terribly reality-based position for anyone EA-sized and below.
Statement from Vintage Story forum :)

First item on the FAQ page: https://www.vintagestory.at/features/faq.html/ [External Link] Short answer is 'someday maybe'. It's not really mentioned in the FAQ, but another reason is that steam crowds can be pretty harsh, and you only get one chance to make a first impression. There's a desire to get the game to a really good state of polish, before throwing it upon steam's tender mercies. And it's not there yet.

Embracer Group to swallow up Tripwire, Tuxedo Labs, The Lord of the Rings
18 Aug 2022 at 2:15 pm UTC Likes: 3

Embracer Group is truly interesting. They seem to try monopolize the industry, yet their way is not the same as other big company.

They have a varied and diverse catalog of games... they even buy niche yet successful game franchise.
So far, they never put any excessive monetization towards their franchise. Things relatively keep under the vision of the game developer.

As if, they simply want to claim small creator before "swallowed by evil guys."

Of course, monopoly is bad. This is simply my impression towards their product portfolio.
