Mesa RADV driver on Linux looks set for a big ray tracing performance boost

Quoting: rustynailRay Tracing is quick to implement for devs compared to manually lighting the whole world, and it has the added benefit of not requiring many gigabytes (sometimes hundreds) that normal lighting techniques need. Considering how AAA games development costs are ballooning, and studios being closed because they don't make enough sales to recoup those costs, ray tracing might be the technology that saves many of them.Quoting: JarmerNice! Gotta love these huge improvements for same hardware.Apparently some developers are mostly using ray tracing not to improve the visuals but as a crutch that allows them to not bother implementing lighting at all as they normally should, like iirc the latest Doom game doesn't work without ray tracing at all, although when you set it to low the performance is not as horrible as you may expect from ray tracing (but still pretty horrible)
Although: that said, I'm not sure I notice/care that much about raytracing just in general. It makes things look SLIGHTLY just a tiny bit better at a huge frame cost? But maybe with this the frame cost will be minimal so that slightly better look will be okay?

I'm completely addicted to it. It's the perfect handheld game when you don't have a lot of time.

A bunch of companies were involved in publishing and distribution of NOLF in different regions, that's why no-one has been able to get the rights to it. No-one knows who has what rights and the companies can't be bothered to check what rights they hold, but still insist they'll enforce them.And on top of that, buying the IP doesn't guarantee that the writing, originality, great level design, etc. of the original game would be there in a new game.

I wish they had also bought Immortals Fenyx Rising. It was a very good Breath of the Wild-like game, and they just abandoned the IP after the first game.
The Last of Us Part I gets AMD FSR 4 and an audio fix for Steam Deck

@ElamanOpiskelija
It's just that the headline is somewhat misleading. There is a fix for Linux sound, and FSR 4 for AMD GPUs. i.e. video cards in PCs. FSR 4 requires dedicated AI acceleration chips to work, and the Steam Deck doesn't have that.

There are already many games that struggle at 1080p with only 8GB of VRAM. Sure, if you play everything at low/medium settings, you might be fine for a few years, but who buys a new video card to play games at low settings?
The most scummy thing about this is that they named the 8GB and 16GB versions exactly the same.

amatai: If I had been there when these screw-ups happened, I would probably feel the same as you about the distro. Especially since there is so much distro choices out there, there is no reason to stick with something that you don't trust. My point stand, though. They seem to have fixed their act, because there has not been any screw-ups since at least 2021.

grigri: I installed Manjaro on my PC in 2021, and it had already been a while since the last time the failed to update their keys. I think it's time to move on, folks. The distro has been running perfectly for as long as I can remember. They provide great support on their forums too if you have technical questions.
Linas: Steam OS is Linux. All Linux versions, like Manjaro, can run the same games as Steam OS, because they share the same open source technology. I bet that, beside the logo, you would not be able to tell them apart.

People who claim Manjaro has issues are probably installing packages from the AUR. The AUR is disabled by default, and if you don't enable it, it will remain rock solid. If you want to use the AUR, use Arch. Manjaro is for people who want an Arch-like distro with guard rails. If you disable the guard rails by enabling the AUR, and shoot yourself in the foot, don't blame the distro.
