If anyone remembers the Rabbit mobile telephones that launched in the UK in the early 1990s and then quickly died out during the same period, those were an example of that very issue - it turned out that people didn't want a mobile-phone that couldn't take incoming calls and which required you to drive to specific locations and park close enough to them in order to (hopefully) place outgoing ones.

Quoting: libgradevThere is one other vital thing (which goes double for portable devices): The technology being able to fit into the user's life, instead of expecting the user to change their life to fit around the technology.Quoting: elmapulentrey cost is very important for an gaming device to sell tens of millions of units, more than the price of the games after the initial purchase it seems. This and game availability are the two most important aspects imho - Deck has both

Mine's all good, as far as I can tell.
The laptop/handheld option for "Main gaming machine" is a little odd in my case since I use a GPD Win Max 2021, and it's technically both. However, I've set it as handheld because if you're using the in-built gamepad you have to use it in that format, and most of what I play requires that.
I hope that that's ok, but if it would be better set as laptop I'll change it.

RPGs aren't usually my sort of thing, but I did enjoy Undertale and Mondealy looks to be in a similar vein, so I'll have to check this one out. Wishlisted.
itch.io has another huge charity bundle, this one supports Ukraine

Anyway, looks like the original goal has been completely shattered at this point, which is even better - the new goal is $4,000,000, of which $2,200,560.61 has been hit right now.

Quoting: SolitaryThe goal is a million. You are reading the number wrong. But apparently in those 2 hours since your comment it went up another 175k.Hahaha, whoops, my bad - that's what I get for writing in a hurry! Can't believe I didn't catch that, since I was quoting the amount and everything.

Grabbed it - thanks for the heads-up, Liam!
I browsed through the list of included content, and the bundle made another million during that time! At the time of writing, it now stands at $730,905.44.

Quoting: eldakingBut the Nintendo policy of "no, this game does not exist anymore, forget it and buy the new game" is silly, there should be no reason for this, especially for things like the GBA where emulating the hardware is trivial.I'm not a fan of that approach, either, but avoiding competing with their own pasts at the cost of not keeping older works in circulation is probably more of a loss to us as consumers than to the businesses that do so, unfortunately.
Quoting: eldakingMaybe they are being overcautious about support tickets,
Quoting: eldakingmaybe they didn't research and/or test it properly, or something else.I think that it's probably a combination of these.
Bungie say a big fat no to Proton and Steam Deck for Destiny 2

I've already seen a few places jump on that last line but it's pretty normal. Anyone who works around anti-cheat in online games, would face a ban. I mean, that's obvious really isn't it?Though it's disappointing to see Bungie not making use of the work that they already did for Stadia (Destiny 2 is not my sort of game, but I know that there are plenty of people who do enjoy it), this reasonable attitude is why I love reading GOL so much - it's refreshing to see a gaming site not leaning into clickbait. Major kudos, Liam.

Hey Hamish. I've been thoroughly enjoying this series of articles and just wanted to say thankyou for publishing them; I didn't switch to Linux until 2008, but was watching from the sidelines during much of the time-period that these pieces cover (and using Mac OS from 2004 whilst waiting for Linux WiFi support to mature, since I lean towards portable machines), so it's both a nostalgic read and a fascinating look at how things were from the other side that I desperately wanted to be on at the time!
Many thanks again for this eye-opening series - I'm looking forward to the next installment already.
