Orange Pi Neo gaming handheld to come with Manjaro Linux

Quoting: LoftyI can't agree with that. people do notice the 800p resolution on the steam deck vs 1080p on the ROG for instance.
I didn't say there was no difference, though - I said there's barely any difference at that size, which is a simple fact. It's like how there's barely any difference between Coke and Pepsi - there is one, but it's really not a big deal.

Besides, people tell themselves they can see big differences in many things - that's why The Emperor's New Clothes [External Link] exists.

Handheld Addicts Anonymous told me that I'm not allowed to be in this thread.

Anyway, nice to see that this one has the twin trackpads and all that. Hopefully they won't turn tail and go with Windows before launch.

Quoting: JuliusOdd screen resolution choice. Probably not the best for overall performance.
People keep asking for it, and won't learn until they see for themselves that you'll barely see a difference in fidelity at that size, but will lose out in performance due to the higher resolution.

Quoting: MayeulCOut of curiosity, what emulators do you use? RetroArch?
In some form or another, usually it's that, yes. The only exception I typically make is for Dolphin, because the standalone version is so good, but I haven't used it lately.

On my Entroware Orion i5, GPD Win Max 2021, and GPD MicroPC (laptop/handheld/palmtop respectively, all running Mint Xfce) I use the RetroArch Flatpak [External Link], which also makes it easy to set up menu entries for individual games [External Link] if I want to. On the Steam Deck I use the wonderful RetroDECK [External Link]. That's all of the x86 machines.

Then over on the ARM side, on my Anbernic RG Nano I've got DrUm78's custom version of FunKey-OS [External Link] (this is the only emulation-handheld I've got where RetroArch isn't used by the OS - I didn't feel the need to fuss with setting up PicoArch cores, in the end), my Anbernic RG351MP runs AmberELEC [External Link], and last but not least my Retroflag GPi Case runs Sliver X's GPi Zero [External Link].

... I might have a bit of a portables addiction.  (And I need to update my profile-page hardware picture and list again, since I revived the GPi Case a couple of days after editing it to its current state.)

What have you been playing mostly over the last month?
Checking my 2024 list so far, 40 out of the 54 games I've played so far this year have been emulated titles, so aside from regular stuff like Stardew Valley [External Link] (Native Linux) and Super Bomberman R 2 [External Link] (Proton), I mostly haven't been playing anything recent, or really many PC games at all!

That said, highlights have been kicking off the New Year with Bomberman [External Link] (NES), getting nostalgic about Darkwing Duck [External Link] (NES), finally completing Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards [External Link] (Nintendo 64) (a game which I constantly had problems getting through over the course of many many years, because every time I've tried to play through it, random nonsense would come up and prevent me from finishing it), re-playing the charming and weird Star Parodier [External Link] (PC Engine Super CD-ROM²), reclaiming all my base in Zero Wing [External Link] (Mega Drive), getting hooked on Dr. Mario [External Link] (NES) all over again, and revisiting the original boomer-shooter, Space Invaders [External Link] (Arcade).

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualI liked the game as a kid when I rented it from Blockbuster...
I can say without exaggeration that you're the first person I've ever met who had something that wasn't negative to say about it. I actually find that genuinely interesting, as I had been under the impression that it was universally-maligned. Thankyou.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderNo.... But I must have summoned him with my Shadow the Hedgehog chanting in last weeks Weekend Players' Club thread........

I am the emo that sulks in the night............ I made a second game purely out of spite...... I am Shadow the Hedgehog!......
Right lads, now we know who to blame!

I am incredibly impressed by how well Palworld is doing! It just goes to show what happens when a dev provides something that the market has been clamouring for for at least a decade - and also how much money Nintendo is willingly leaving on the table.
