Proton 8.0-4 brings more game support to Steam Deck and desktop Linux

Are you still waiting on a specific fix?
I am - I have precisely one game that doesn't work out-of-the-box with Proton: Anniversary Collection Arcade Classics [External Link].

I picked it up in a Fanatical sale for peanuts without checking ProtonDB first (a mistake I don't usually make), expecting it to work perfectly like the other Konami collections do, but it turned out to have a different developer - HAMSTER Corporation, who otherwise only sells games through the Windows Store (and on consoles, but that doesn't help me here ). Though it can be made to work, it requires a bunch of hoop-jumping and, on the Steam Deck it only works in desktop-mode once you do this stuff, which is not optimal for a collection of arcade-games that I'm less likely to play in long sessions.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Shreds On Steam Deck, But With Two Massive Caveats

Quoting: CatKillerA game requiring an Internet connection doesn't affect the rating. It gets noted on the compatibility report for either the single-player requiring an active Internet connection or for the initial setup requiring an active Internet connection.

The Deck Verified criteria are for things that will affect everyone; for the (probably majority) use case of just using your Deck when you're chilling at home, the Internet requirement doesn't stop you playing.

It still sucks, obviously, and it will stop some people from being able to play. So they put it in the report.
Aha! Thanks very much for the correction - clearly I still have some learning to do about how they hand out the ratings.

Still, that does make the case of Hotshot Racing an odd one, as it's flawless, but rated Unsupported.

Quoting: EhvisAny game with an online requirement should be flagged as incompatible with Steam Deck.
Some of them definitely are. One example that springs to mind right away is Hotshot Racing, which works perfectly, but which reportedly won't start if you're offline - it's marked as Unsupported, seemingly for this reason.

This game isn't Steam Deck rated at all, yet, though, so that remains to be seen.

I'm no game-designer or programmer, but maybe someday - we do have the likes of GDevelop, after all!

Well, I gave it my single-handed level best trying to get Super Bomberman R 2 on there after it launched on the 13th, but it clearly wasn't to be, haha.

Epic Games sheds 830 people due to 'spending way more money than we earn'

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderSimple....... Its costs more in payouts to fire the CEO or Board or Upper management than it does to fire the office grunts...... Thats why the office grunts are the first to go......

Either get rid the CEO/Bored and pay up to tens of millions in golden handshakes........ Or fire a bunch of office grunts whos collective severance packages (if any) would be way less than even one million dollars........

I know its not right...... But that is reality.......
We need more people like the late Satoru Iwata who, along with other executives, took a pay-cut when poor decisions were made [External Link], instead of passing lay-offs down the line.

Quoting: GroganBuzzwords are a pet peeve of mine and as long as the execs can keep coming up with presentations full of them, it won't be them losing their jobs.
Quoting: GroganI especially hate IT parroting full of buzzwords. I wish those twits realized how dumb they sound, it's a turn off for me.
I'm glad that it's not just me! They really do sound like a bunch of prats.

Hahahaha, that was great! The video was fun to watch, too - I particularly liked the drawing for "Best in Breed", very amusing.

Quoting: LanzThose are exactly the kind of buzzwords he has to use to get BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street to give him more money. It's not an accident.
They just sound like gibberish.

How many buzzwords does this guy use? Yikes!

Seriously, though, this is yet another example of why consolidation is bad for everyone. Why is it never the high-ups who took the company in this direction who lose their jobs for it?
