Selaco is now in Early Access - one of the best shooters I've played in forever

I'm so pleased that you mentioned the train system, as that's how I first encountered Selaco, and it's such a delightful feature. I'll have to pick the game up soon, though I've got plenty on my plate as is, particularly Ghost of Tsushima and the recently released Nine Sols (Highly recommend fans of Hollow Knight, Sekiro, and 2D platformers check it out, it's by Red Candle, the studio behind Devotion and Detention!)

God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn coming to Steam, requires PlayStation Network Account

The part I find exceptionally funny about this is that the likely to be godawful Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team, which got announced for PC during this same Sony event, and yet it managed to escape requiring a PSN account. Now granted, Konami is publishing this one, rather than it being Sony backed, but still. I'm glad that I'm lucky enough to live in a country that Sony accepts money from, but it's frustrating that they've clearly chosen to stick with this approach to boosting PSN numbers, presumably to look nice on some graph during an investor call.

Has vibes of Suda51 and Swery65, which I'm all for. Plus Ikumi is an absolute treasure, so this is going on the wishlist for sure.

Nintendo DMCA nukes 8,535 GitHub copies of Switch emulator yuzu

I mean, let's not pretend anyone didn't see this coming. While I do certainly agree that Nintendo's litigious nature is ridiculous, when they settled the lawsuit with Tropic Haze with the requirement that they shut down operations of Yuzu and Citra, the point was to prevent further distribution of Yuzu and Citra. Folks could certainly back up a copy of Yuzu or Citra, but distributing it was only ever going to end one way.

Honestly I wonder how much consideration was put into trying to sue each individual distributor, because it's not like Nintendo's lawyers would hesitate to sue individuals into indentured servitude for the rest of their life.

Semi-open world paper plane adventure 'Paper Sky' coming to Linux and Steam Deck

Reminds me a lot of Exo One [External Link], actually. Particularly the bit of the trailer that seemed to be showcasing maintaining and increasing your speed by using the ball form and then switching to plane form when you launch off a ramp. Speaking of which, found out they're doing a sci-fi rally game, which is neat.

Nintendo DS emulator DraStic became free of charge after Yuzu case

Quoting: ElectricPrismI wonder how effective a reverse PR campaign would be.

Could the gaming community crowd fund a NYT Square billboard, or hold signs to create a awareness Nintendo is engaged in lawfare against their fans + The Tech Sector.

I think that drawing BIG attention to what Nintendo has done here would work against their interests and show them to be the crybully that they have become.

We need to make it not worth it for Nintendo to continue their hostile anti-consumer behaviors.

And we need them to know not to mess with the hornets nest.
Frankly, I don't think there's much that could be done to stop this sort of behavior, particularly because I think (without any particular legal knowledge) they're within their rights to do this. Yuzu devs were caught admitting that they knew that people were using pirate game dumps and system files with their software to emulate (and pirate) games, and they were making money in the process via Patreon.

Don't get me wrong, trying to take down AM2R, Gary Bowser essentially being made an indentured servant for the rest of his life, etc. etc. etc. is ridiculous, but you'd need a lot of money and a crack team of lawyers to take on Nintendo. I have my doubts a 10 second ad in between Crypto and AI shilling in Times Square is gonna do much, nor will protests. :\

Quoting: GuestPink slips being delivered like hot pancakes, meanwhile prices keep rising and rising, something doesn't add up 🤔🤔
I mean, if they are selling less, maybe they could try lowering prices.
Games actually got (relatively) cheaper compared with what they used to cost 20 years ago, while the costs for making them have exploded over the same period. The problem is more the opposite of what you suggested - it's rock hard to deliver the quality people want for the price they're willing to pay.
This, though it's probably also worth noting that executives and board members who have what could be considered largely outsized salaries in comparison to the amount of work they actually do, and have a less than open mind to the suggestion of taking a pay cut instead of costing large swaths of others their entire livelihood would go a long way to make things easier, especially during the current global economic situation.

Never Grave from the Palworld developer looks a lot like Hollow Knight

While I can absolutely see the Hollow Knight influences (Queens Garden, Forgotten Crossroads, perhaps a bit of Royal Waterways/City of Tears?) in a few of the screenshots, the game overall seems to have it's own (in my opinion) very pretty looking art style.

Honestly feel like folks wouldn't have been as bothered about this, perhaps not even have noticed the announcement at all, had Palworld not suddenly hit such a wildly critical mass. So long as it isn't ripping assets straight out of Hollow Knight, I see no issue.

Ubisoft think gamers need to get comfortable with not owning games
16 Jan 2024 at 11:40 pm UTC Likes: 16

It's extremely funny to me that they let this guy do this interview while they prepare to shut down the servers for The Crew in about 3 months and change. Also funny how they're putting out a new subscription for "Ubisoft+ Classics", and naming Rainbow Six: Siege (2015) and Far Cry 6 (2021) as the headliners. I think they have a different definition of what constitutes a "classic" than most.

Ultimately though, they interviewed the "Director of Subscriptions", so it's to be expected that he'd preach about how his job is totally worthwhile. I do appreciate the flattery of not forcing folks to subscribe if they don't want, but that should be the standard, not something that they should expect to be praised for.

As for not owning the games I buy on Steam, like you said, it's not a subscription service, and a lot of the games on there are DRM free. I also just don't have the storage space to house upwards of 1,000 games, and many of those don't even have physical releases. It's all about benefits and drawbacks, and Valve has done well in walking the line between both, at least for me.

Bold move to say the quiet part loudly. Stupid move too, but then again when has that ever stopped this particular brand of pond scum.
