Palworld is Pokémon with guns, farming, survival and building - I'm quite excited
10 Jan 2024 at 9:45 pm UTC

I mean, I have more faith in this than I ever did in The Day Before. I won't be preordering it or anything (I've been playing more than enough Pokemon as it is of late), but I'm excited to see this take on the monster collecting genre.

Modders already improving the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection

Quoting: jordicomaGood, but I don't understand why this box lavel "caution" rotates only changing this.
This changes should have been made by konami in first place.
I'm not sure I follow what you're saying here. If you're talking about the box in the bottom right corner of the example in the article, it doesn't say "Caution", it says "Ration", one of the game's consumable healing items. From what I recall, in the original release, they float in the air and spin, do they not do that by default in the Master Collection release?

Unrelated, but I'm curious as to why this mod doesn't touch MGS1. Couldn't find anything on the Github specifying why it wasn't touched up.

Metroidvania action-platformer Timespinner 2: Unwoven Dream announced
3 Oct 2023 at 10:23 pm UTC

Timespinner was a pretty fantastic game, though there were a few spots that felt as though content was cut, which was a shame. I've been getting notifications about the dev streaming his work on the sequel on Twitch on my phone for years now, so it's awesome to see it finally get announced officially! Interesting that we're playing a different character this time.

Steam Deck OS 3.5 now in Preview with HDR, VRR and display colour settings

Still no news of a fix or update to how the system handles notifications for friends coming online or starting games? I've had to stay signed out of Steam chat since late June, early July just so the bell notification doesn't keep showing up every minute or two. You've got settings for this sort of thing, the bell just doesn't respect it for some reason.

Microsoft experiments with a handheld Windows 11 mode for Steam Deck

Quoting: JustinWoodI don't get why folks are so opposed to this.
When your main objective is to break a monopoly, any move by the maintainers of that monopoly to block challenges is bad news. For quite a few of us, that's our main, or at least a major, objective. Or contrariwise, our objective is the rise of (desktop/ish) Linux, which cannot happen without the monopoly being broken.
Fair enough. I don't necessarily see this as "blocking" challenges, but I suppose that's looking at it from a more literal point of view.

Microsoft experiments with a handheld Windows 11 mode for Steam Deck

I don't get why folks are so opposed to this. While I appreciate wanting support to go towards Linux/Proton, some stuff just isn't going to make the transition (Looking at you Genshin Impact and other titles that require anti-cheat and such), so having a Windows UI that doesn't require I carry a 65% keyboard and try to pinpoint my mouse with the deck trackpad is a benefit in my eyes. Granted it's Windows 11 but still.

Returnal is just rough on Steam Deck but great on Desktop Linux

I can echo Liam's comment. It's not installing EGS, it's installing EOS. EOS (Epic Online Services) is used to, among other things, enable crossplay across storefronts and platforms. It's middleware, and the folks who are getting worked up over it should probably consider that Steam/Steamworks is also middleware. As for why it was used for this title instead of Steamworks, simple. It's running on a modified version of Unreal Engine 4, and I can only imagine that it's far easier to integrate tailor made middleware for the engine your game runs on.

That aside, has anyone noticed some weird flickering with shadows during their playtime? The cutscene where you get your pistol looked particularly bad for me. This was on Windows, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Ubisoft just broke their games on Linux desktop and Steam Deck

Quoting: christofinCase in point: The racing game they just announced yesterday has a nice little EGS logo at the end of the trailer. Ubisoft doesn't give a single crap about their Steam customers.
"Grrr, EOS is bad?" Last I checked, EOS has been working for ages with Proton and Wine, so this just comes off as an odd complaint.
I think you're confusing the Epic Game Store (EGS) with the Epic Online Services (EOS). I think Christofin's comment was specifically that despite having started to bring these games back over to Steam, it's clear that it's not a "we're going to release everywhere at the same time again", it's "we made all the money we were going to make through EGS and Ubisoft Connect, so now Steam users can have the games". It's blatant padding of their bottom line, maximizing their revenue. And yeah, that's every business, but it's why I refuse to support them anymore, and actively advise folks spend their money elsewhere.

Quoting: MohandevirBecause they want your data! Anti-piracy measure? Because Steam permits offline play? It's become even more annoying than DRM (launcher in a launcher).

Edit: Thank you Ubisoft for not taking the time to test against Proton and make sure Valve doesn't have the time to make the corrections, before updating!
Considering all of their recent double dips (Read: Sales on EGS and through Ubisoft Connect have dipped to the point where we're willing to let Valve take their cut for some extra profits) have been the most bare bones efforts, I'm not surprised in the slightest that (seemingly) no effort was made to test for Linux/Proton compatibility. If anything, I'm sure that the consensus was "If it breaks, so what? Valve will fix it for us".

Watch Dogs: Legion from Ubisoft arrives on Steam, playable on Steam Deck

Understandable. Ultimately this is my own opinion on the game, and one that was formed due to a number of factors not just with the game itself, but outside of it with how Ubisoft was changing their launcher, so if you can enjoy it, more power to you. It was just a very big letdown for me and wanted to express that. I've at least heard positive things about the DLC campaign, given that you actually have defined player characters there (what a concept).
