Thanks for the feedback, guys! From what I´m reading in your comments, it seems to be playable and enjoyable for the most part on the Steam Deck. If I have to switch to Desktop for some parts of the game (base building), thats fine for me as long as I can play most of it on the Deck.
SteamOS 3.6.6 Preview for Steam Deck has fixes for ELDEN RING, system memory leak and more

Another nice side effect: The game actually stops right that second when the deck starts playing its suspend-animation. It always bugged me, that the games kept playing for a few seconds in the background until the deck finally shut down.
I´d honestly expect a third-party solution like that to be buggy as hell, but so far it all works fine for me.

Quoting: ZlopezThanks for the tip, I didn't know there is a solution for the crackling sound, it's annoying one.Only been using it for about a week now, so I can´t tell anything for sure, but it seems to work for a lot of people. You have to turn on the "Pause game before suspend"-option in the plugins settings.

I´d love to get into X again, but I don´t think I´ll ever find the time other then maybe on the Deck. Anybody tried playing it there for a longer periode of time?
I´ve sank countless hours into the first two games and remember using pretty much my whole keyboard worth of hotkeys, button-combos and macro-keys to manage my trading-empire. I´m sure they´ve modernised and simplified a lot of it, but I still can´t imagine its possible to boil it down to anything handheld-friendly.

Would be great if that fixed memory leak is the "big one" that still plagues a lot of open world games. For me this and the occasionaly crackling sound after wakeup are the two major unsolved issues leftover from when the Steam Deck was first released.
At least for the crackling sound there seems to be a solution using decky loaders "pause game"-plugin. I just recently heard about this and so far it seems to work fine.

Price is a bit high for my taste with 69€ for the whole set. Yes, its a lot of content, but concidering its age I was hoping for something 40-ish. But I´m also a "vote with my wallet"-kind of guy and right now my wallet wants to scream "YES! FINALLY! DAMMIT! TAKE WHATEVER YOU WANT!!"

I remember having to do intense internet research in order to find a trustworthy seller to get the first GPD Win shipped from China to Germany. Now its pretty much raining devices like this everywhere you look. Great times!
This one looks a bit like the Steam Decks ugly brother, but to me its more important how it feels and performs. I appreciate the two trackpads, but going FullHD is still a bad descision on these devices IMHO. 800p is perfect with the current hardware.

Thanks, scaine. I looked through the FAQ. It doesnt get mentioned specificly if the actual owner has special control, but you´re probably right and its treated more like a license-pool for the group. I´d actually prefer if the owning account always had priority. Not the biggest issue I guess, but it might get problematic with suspended games on Steam Deck.

Sounds great, especialy the parental controls! I´m gonna wait for the stable release, but there are two things I´m wondering right now:
If I´m the owner of the game, can other accounts kick me out by starting the same game, or does the owner always have priority?
Can I start a child´s account with all games banned and then choose to make specific games available? It sounds like it works the other way around and that could be quite painfull with >4,5k games in my library...

Ive mostly been playing Assassins Creed Valhalla and BalasticNG.
...and I´m really blown away by how awesome BNG is. I´ve been unsure about the game mostly for its graphics... even though I´m a fan of retro gaming, pixel art etc., I dont have any nostalgia for PS1-Era 3D graphics. But it turns out the graphics bothered me for exactly five seconds.
