UK CMA blocks the Microsoft takeover of Activision
26 Apr 2023 at 6:54 pm UTC

hi
yes Microsoft and Activision are not good companies but IMHO Microsoft is the worst company that Activision can get bought out by

when it comes to the desktop for gaming Microsoft has a monopoly and they also have the Xbox do you think they are going to rales games for the PlayStation or any other rival system I do not think so just looking at the List of Microsoft video games Wikipedia page there are just 8 that where relets on the PlayStation and 7 on a Nintendo system there may be more

IMHO I do not trust Microsoft and its data telemetry I know how bad bug reports can be from the average user but I do not think Microsoft sees Windows as a high priority just look at the number of bad updates that have been released that's why I use GNU/Linux as my main os

I have a BIG list of changes that Microsoft needs to change in Windows for me to go back to Windows but that is getting offtopic

Steam now allows transferring games between PCs and Steam Deck too

hi
is it just me this is not working for me I have tested installing a game I have installed on my main computer on my laptop but I do not get the information bar transferring game files on local network from Device MainComputer

Both Steam clients must be online and see each other directly on the same LAN (no downloads while either Steam client is in offline-mode)
my main computer and the laptop are connected to the same LAN and are not in offline-mode

Game File Transfer settings on both devices must allow a transfer (e.g. if both have "Friends only" set, they must be Steam friends)
I have tested the setting "Only my own devices" and "Any user" with both having the same setting

Game content can only be transferred out if the transferring Steam client is idle, e.g. no downloads or games running.
the Steam client on my main computer is idle

The game needs to released to the public and playable by both Steam users (no preloads)
the games tested have been released

The game needs to be up-to-date on the PC sending the game files
Only a PC running in Steam desktop mode can send files. So Steam Decks, PCs in Big Picture mode, and custom launchers can currently not transfer files out over the local network.
the games tested are up-to-date and both are on the Steam desktop mode

my main computer and the laptop are on the Steam Beta
Only my own devices
Any user

Edit
Tested with half-life 2 it started to transfer the game files over the network then it stopped transferring game files over the network after transferring about 200MB then I pause the download and verified half life 2 game files and opened the game and then closed the game then resumed the download it transferred about 1 GB over the network then it stopped transferring the game files over the network

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past gets a reverse-engineered clone

Quoting: legluondunet
Quoting: RustyConsidering all of the code is reverse-engineered and all the assets are extracted from a ROM, there's not really much Nintendo can do here. The case law isn't on their side. This is why we have projects like sm64pc and Ship of Harkinian.
If only you could be right, remember Rockstar GTA 3 and Re3 github project...
that project did not get clean room reverse-engineered but Rockstar has failed to take down the code for that project HA HA

What I want to see in 2023 for Linux, Gaming, Steam Deck and more
1 Jan 2023 at 3:36 pm UTC

For publishers to actually stop forcing Launchers on us. Don't make me beg. Have you ever met someone who said "heck yeah, the EA App!" or "oh lovely, the 2K launcher" in any kind of serious way?
there are Launchers that do not break things and do add value but it depends on what you class as a Launcher

Command & Conquer 3, not the ea origin / EA App lets you select the mod you want to play and watch your replays, and when the game was originally released it lets you check for game updates and it was optional

aliens versus predator classic 2000
lets you select the cross-play or the steam version platinum rating on proton DB

the EA App is a digital distribution application getting used as a launcher and the 2K launcher is trash

GOG Galaxy and Epic Games Store on Linux
I do not think this is going to happen IMHO which is a good thing the GOG Galaxy IMHO interface needs a redesign Epic Games Store launcher needs a rewrite to use fewer system resources but there is the heroic launcher

Epic Games are killing off a bunch of classics like Unreal Tournament

hi
you can still get Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition, Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition, Unreal Tournament GOTY, Unreal Gold on GOG

and for the other games is Epic Games wanting new players to set sail to get a copy??
