So what the heck is an 'indie game' nowadays anyway?

I dislike Geoff for many reasons and this is just another reason. He's actually in a position where he could (at least for his very large corner) create a definition of it and yet when he's put on the spot he basically just says every game is an indie game.

So why bother having the category if the term has no definition? Also, frankly, looking at the nominees for each category I see that TGA continue to be kinda a joke.

Need a new controller? The 8BitDo Ultimate C 2.4G looks great

Quoting: PenglingDo the wireless ones require firmware updates, and if so, can those be done on Linux?
I personally connect mine to my phone and use their android app to update your firmware, but I imagine you could use fwupd/fwupdmgr as it has worked for pretty much every 8bitdo controller ever.

I'd say if you're looking at these be prepared to get them returned or replaced. While I love the ergonomics of my 2.4/blutooth ultimate controller, and love the hall effect sticks, I and others have had serious issues with them. Some people just can't get them to work randomly, some can't get them to connect, mine constantly gets disconnected when using 2.4ghz connection.

Idk how much of this is QA, or if it's bad firmware/software, just be aware that these aren't as plug-n-play reliable as most of 8bitdo's other controllers (of which I'm a huge fan of).

Now that I take a closer look at things I think they still have more work decluttering. 3 separate rows of dropdown menus seems silly to me; I've always hated this kind of clutter in prominent windoze apps personally.

Definitely looks better (and certainly more up to date icon/themewise)
Many things are way easier to navigate by the simple nature of better organization and removal of excess.
There's still some redundancies (e.i. the dropdown menu for library contains links for collection and downloads, which already have buttons.)

I still have occasional rendering issues, but it's far less than it used to be (I suspect this is gpu dependent) and big picture mode is still laggy and crackly on nvidia cards as well (although perhaps less so).

Overall I'd say they still have more work to do, but they're certainly in the right direction!

Rogue: Genesia is another horde survivor (Vampire-like?) game worth a look

I like to call them "Enemy Hell". The word "horde" is too often thrown around in the video game industry for my likings.

Quoting: InhaleOblivionAnyone of us who has used Linux for years prior to the advances of gaming understands why those of us who are lifelong gamers have two PC builds.
Another lifelong gamer here, exclusively desktop gaming on Linux since almost 20 years.
I can still remember that moment when I realized the only reason I kept starting up my Windows partition was to install updates. Nuked it from orbit, never looked back. Not once.
Another, another, lifelong gamer and I switched exclusively and permanently shortly after win8.1. no dual booting, no second machine. Windows isn't worth installing for personal use, period. There are so many great games that can be played on Linux (one way or another) that there's just no justification, and given the consistent trend of AAA games being absolute trash I don't bother getting incompatible multiplayer games just to play with friends because they all end up hating the game after a couple weeks anyway (and I end up being the only one not wasting $60+ on the garbage!).

Quoting: s01itudeI'd much rather have autopopulated "playlists" as well as a better recommendations tab: things like "games you've installed, but haven't played", "old favorites you haven't played in a while", "trending games", and the likes.
I vaguely remember having seen such things on Steam...?
Was it in some sale action?

Quoting: s01itudeBeing able to mark games with tags like "finished"/"unfinished"/"100% completion" would also be a great tool.
I do this with the current tag (category?) system, what's missing is something like
select *
from [games]
where genre = 'RPG'
  and State <> 'finished'
  and State <> 'givenup'
  order by release_date
There's been ways to do these kinds of things built in, but it needs to be fleshed out and (again) automated. This is really a large library problem so I suspect it's not an issue for most users, but it would definitely be welcomed for those of us who do have large libraries.

Quoting: KimyrielleI guess it's like back in the olden days when people had to actively decide what games to keep installed. :D
Well… I think having many games installed at the same time actually keeps many people from playing them.

I've bought the 256 GB one since I didn't want to upgrade it at once and it's enough for the moment.
This is actually a problem that I think could be mitigated with library UI. The collections system (on top of loading issues because of thumbnail population) has problems and is frankly an insufficient and cumbersome tool IMO. I'd much rather have autopopulated "playlists" as well as a better recommendations tab: things like "games you've installed, but haven't played", "old favorites you haven't played in a while", "trending games", and the likes. Being able to mark games with tags like "finished"/"unfinished"/"100% completion" would also be a great tool.

On one hand having 1-3 games you focus on at a time is pretty effective for completing games (and avoiding choice paralysis) on the other hand there's plenty of times where I'd think about playing a game, but don't want to have to wait an extra 30+ minutes for it to install when I have literally hundreds of other games already ready to play.

as someone with a library that will probably hit 2k by the end of this year (there's a lot of games coming out this year fyi xD) this is excellent news! I can relegate my sd cards to demos, 3rd party games, and roms! $300 is a bit steep though so I'll probably wait a bit to see if prices fall...
