Quoting: s01itudeI'd much rather have autopopulated "playlists" as well as a better recommendations tab: things like "games you've installed, but haven't played", "old favorites you haven't played in a while", "trending games", and the likes.
I vaguely remember having seen such things on Steam...?
Was it in some sale action?

Quoting: s01itudeBeing able to mark games with tags like "finished"/"unfinished"/"100% completion" would also be a great tool.
I do this with the current tag (category?) system, what's missing is something like
select *
from [games]
where genre = 'RPG'
  and State <> 'finished'
  and State <> 'givenup'
  order by release_date
There's been ways to do these kinds of things built in, but it needs to be fleshed out and (again) automated. This is really a large library problem so I suspect it's not an issue for most users, but it would definitely be welcomed for those of us who do have large libraries.

Quoting: KimyrielleI guess it's like back in the olden days when people had to actively decide what games to keep installed. :D
Well… I think having many games installed at the same time actually keeps many people from playing them.

I've bought the 256 GB one since I didn't want to upgrade it at once and it's enough for the moment.
This is actually a problem that I think could be mitigated with library UI. The collections system (on top of loading issues because of thumbnail population) has problems and is frankly an insufficient and cumbersome tool IMO. I'd much rather have autopopulated "playlists" as well as a better recommendations tab: things like "games you've installed, but haven't played", "old favorites you haven't played in a while", "trending games", and the likes. Being able to mark games with tags like "finished"/"unfinished"/"100% completion" would also be a great tool.

On one hand having 1-3 games you focus on at a time is pretty effective for completing games (and avoiding choice paralysis) on the other hand there's plenty of times where I'd think about playing a game, but don't want to have to wait an extra 30+ minutes for it to install when I have literally hundreds of other games already ready to play.

as someone with a library that will probably hit 2k by the end of this year (there's a lot of games coming out this year fyi xD) this is excellent news! I can relegate my sd cards to demos, 3rd party games, and roms! $300 is a bit steep though so I'll probably wait a bit to see if prices fall...

JSAUX will be doing more colours for their Steam Deck backplate
25 Jan 2023 at 1:19 am UTC

I think purple and green won because they were the 2 most popular "atomic" colors from nintendo's systems, if I recall correctly. I didn't even bother voting because i wanted purple and I knew it was going to get first.

What I want to see in 2023 for Linux, Gaming, Steam Deck and more

Quoting: KlaasWhat I want from GOG is

1) add the missing Linux versions
....
For me I find it unacceptable that companies both:
A) do not have usable official linux versions
B) don't have some sort of linux-compatible full feature api system.

If you're too lazy/closed-minded to make your own linux version then fine, but at least give the community tools to do your work for you. Imagine how much better support we could have of hardware and software if companies would at least offer us proper open sourced api systems to work with.

#1 for me right now is better driver/software support from hardware manufacturers.
Of course nvidia is the top of the list right now. If they don't get better or more open soon I'll be done with them permanently, but I still use an nvidia card and it is the primary source of headaches for me as a linux gamer.
Other manufacturers also either need to open up their source or start supporting linux, especially elgato. For me the hardest part of moving linux exclusive was actually the loss of use of a lot of gaming related hardware, not the less-than-100%-compatible game library.

#2 "steamboxes". Whether valve makes one (unlikely this year IMO since they already only want 1 targeted hardware profile and the steamdeck's hardware isn't powerful enough for 1080p which is the bare minimum for large displays), or if they finally release a full version of steamOS 3 for desktop use and vendors market/bundle apu mini pc's with it. This would be another big push for gaming on linux since people would no longer have the burden of expensive prebuilts or building their own to get into pc gaming; it would be like the steamdeck, but for home consoles (like xbox or playstation etc). This is obviously part of Valves planning, but sooner rather than later would certainly be better. They could at least just release a Ryzen-only beta ISO while we wait for a wider range of hardware support...

#3 A new steam controller. I have 2 steam controllers, but I never use them. I just don't find them comfortable, personally, without having to consciously hold them a specific way; and the lack of a full set of traditional controls and built-in rechargability make them something that just sits in the box. I always grab my ps5 or 8bitdo controllers and the lack of dual touchpads reduces the list of games I'm willing to play on a big screen with controller. Desktop steamos 3 necessitates a new controller, at the very least, but I also just want a full featured pc gaming controller and there really isn't one on the market.

Hopefully they make a purple one (and reduce the size of that massive, billboard sized logo)!

KDE Plasma gets Wayland Fractional Scaling, Fixing Multi-Screen and a Steam Deck updater
19 Dec 2022 at 11:32 pm UTC

Quoting: BlackBloodRumI'm curious who had the multi-monitor issues? I've used KDE for around a year now with two monitors, first with Xorg which worked fine, and these days using Wayland, also working fine. Never had any identification issues...:
Sometimes when I login my widgets get shuffled between screens, sometimes this happens with wallpapers, and sometimes both; although it doesn't happen that frequently. It should be noted that this is a static system (hardware-wise); I never change monitors in or out and I don't change their resolutions or layout or orientation, and yet the shuffles still happen from time to time.

Valve fix the New Big Picture Mode on NVIDIA for Linux gamers

Quoting: hardpenguinOverall it feels still far from a complete experience. More like an early alpha than a beta.
Agreed, it still weird performance issues and pretty spotty audio, but it DOES work now which is more than what could be said before this latest patch.

We may get a Steam Controller 2, plus fun updates coming to Steam Deck
