Steam Play Proton 5.0-6 is out to help DOOM Eternal, Rockstar Launcher and more on Linux

Quoting: TheRiddick
Quoting: gojulThe Skyrim windowed issue is still there. Running it with WINED3D works however.
Be aware WINED3D is OLD wine directx method and nothing to do with Vulkan nor DXVK. So it will perform like poop!
It works still well, now the problem is that there is a bug with Vulkan introduced with the 5.0.x release of Proton for this game.

I own all the X- games but not this one. Don't trust them anymore, but well, if I see more and more good reviews why not...

Seems Valve do intend to go back to SteamOS at some point

Same opinion for me : Debian w/ BPO enables you to have a bleeding age graphic stacks. Arch is the most problematic distro for game developers.

Now to be frank : the distro upon which SteamOS is based does not affect me as long as Steam remains available for other distros. The lack of official support, as it is the case for Debian, has proven not to be that problematic as Steam is put aside from the rest of the OS for most parts.

This release still does not fix the regression introduced with Proton 5.0.x preventing Skyrim from launching in windowed mode. Bug reported, but no answer. :-(

Quoting: kneekooAlthough fully updated, I can only see 5.0-2 in Steam -> Settings -> Steam Play. Can anyone actually see 5.0-3?
Wait a bit and restart Steam. I see 5.0.3.

Skyrim in windowed mode is still broken with this release. :-( Only possible workaround consists in switching back to Proton 4.11 for Skyrim.

In full screen it does work however, but in that case it won't survive to Alt-Tab.

A note on using Steam Play Proton and counting the sales for Linux (updated)

Most of my Windows games work flawlessly (not Arkham Knight, still crash prone) at least in solo mode. I do not play multi.

Too bad for the stats but frankly it does not bother me that much since games work great.

Anyway a whitelist update would be great.

Have an Intel processor? Enjoy two more vulnerabilities

My next PC in several years from now will be AMD-based.

However this issue only affects Skylake-based CPUs, and I have Haswell on which TSX is disabled.
