That's right, I was looking for that earlier but thought the feature wasn't implemented or something. Guess it was just a privileges thing.

We can talk about it on Friday with Samsai if you're going to be on. There's also the GOL survey, which unless someone else decides to continue, I'll also take care of... Then it would also make sense if I did the Steam survey results along side it. I don't know, I'll try and be there on Friday and get things organised.

Quoting: HamishWell, I just checked over and approved four submitted articles, which seems like a good start so far.
Was wondering who that was :)

I know everyone is difference but its a difference I will never understand. Someone I don't know wants to talk crap about me? Have at it; don't care.
I completely get where he's coming from, and just shrugging that stuff off if you're a sensitive person and building a thicker skin around yourself just leaves you as an emotionless shell of a person - speaking from personal experience. Not everyone can take it.

EDIT: Also, Speedster I think you're both misunderstanding eachother here.

Well we all know there are mean bullies out there in the world, and some of them are on the internet. Let's hope the ones picking on Liam get bored and leave GOL alone now that Liam has stepped down.
Could you or someone PM me links to the stuff in question? Just curious as to what actually happened - all I know is Liam got a lot of shit off some guys.

SIDE COMMENT:

Does anyone have any idea if these are the same people who were trolling the guy who was porting The Stanley Parable (GranPC)? Just seems like a similar case of extremists crapping all over people's good work - but maybe the internet is just full of those.

Seeing this kind of makes me want to give up too. Not because of Liam's decision, but because there are people out there who are big enough pricks that they drive people to make such decision.

Your comment contained a naughty word
Yeah, "naughty words" are fucking justified in this case.

it's completely understandable that you can't include every dev from every country.
I know people wouldn't mind if I missed some out, but the whole point is to look at the industry as a whole and showcase all the devs, so it would be a real shame to miss stuff out just because it takes a long time - I'd feel kinda bad for those devs I wasn't able to do.

I think if I do it I'll tackle The Czech Republic over time, making a list of all the developers and their games, then put it all together over a weekend. Plus historically and culturally, there's so much to talk about - I could write an entire article on Prague alone, it's probably the most beautiful city in Europe.

Anyhow - the question could be something as simple as "Do you have a computer that is primarily used for gaming", or "Is your primary gaming computer a laptop" or a one-of special question "How much did you so far spend on gaming hardware during 2014".

Don't worry about me - Democracy 3 and Dungeons of Dredmor take me through the weeks now. And Half Life 1 worked well until my dedicated NVIDIA graphics card burned out a few months ago.
That's actually a very good question. You're probably right in saying that most Linux users didn't have great hardware up until recently, or still don't - but this is something which is most likely changing now as bigger games are coming out. I'll consider that for the next one, maybe as a permanent question.

Democracy 3 was pretty good. I ended up getting all of the achievements in that. As a politics graduate I have a lot of issues with the game though, I would consider it to be a "post-democracy" simulator rather that a democracy sim. It simulates a society where democracy and political discourse is limited to a few narrow policy decisions (as it is in the west), while real societal change is out of the political agenda (things like the economic or political system) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-democracy [External Link] . People like Marcuse and Zizek refer to this as "cultural hegemony", whereby the populace is incapable of seeing any possibilities beyond those which are in the interests of the status quo.

I still really enjoyed the game, and even made a mod to play as Argentina - but for some reason the upload never worked so I'm the only person to have played it.

This looks excellent! Love the idea of a sci-fi adventure game, it's perfect for the genre.

I've added it to my wish list and I'll pick it up once I finish a couple more adventure games which I haven't played yet.

The Studio seems to be from the Czech Republic - I'm almost considering missing it out in GOL World Tour because there are just so many great games coming out from the country that it would have to be like 3 pages long. Has to be the highest game-to-population ratio of anywhere in the world!

I've had my eye on this one for a while now, so glad to see they're porting it!

Can you make a possible reply:

No, but i only buy games with Linux support... (because at this moment i'm forced to use Windows but I plan to ditch it in a future)
If I put every possibility that people have suggested on here, the survey would be 3 pages long and the data would not be any better - it would just satisfy a few people who are exceptions. With surveys there will always be people that don't exactly fit the mold, but those people just have to put whatever fits them best.

The people who use two window managers/DEs should just put the one they use for gaming. Those with optimus cards should put Nvidia (I have a laptop with optimus and if that was my main gaming device, I would certainly put Nvidia since that part of the card is what I would use most for games). Those who have the latest drivers should put "updated", however you installed them - the xorg-edgers PPA was just one example of how one might update them.

Those on Ubuntu should simply put Debian-based (because that's what it is) and based on distrowatch numbers, we can be almost sure that the 60% will be made up of mostly Ubuntu derivatives and Mint. It's great that people want to show off their favourite distro, but that's really not the point of the survey - we just need to show the main family since most things are compatible within them and from a gaming point of view, that's all that interests us.

In your case, you simply answer NO for the first question and YES for the second, there's no adjustments needed for the survey for you to be accurately represented. If in a couple of months you ditch Windows, then you take that survey and answer YES on both questions. If you feel you need to clarify something, that's what the comments are for.

That said, we have had some really great suggestions - personally I think a lot of them would be great for a "poll of the week" or something like that which a lot of other sites have - but I doubt Liam s the time for that, so if there's someone who would like to set that up then it would be of great benefit for the site as a whole.

Plz add "what is your favourite genre of games" option.
That's actually a very good idea for a "unique question" I could do one month - makes more sense to do it as a one-off since I doubt tastes really change that much over time.

I didn't know Ubuntu and Mint were "Devian-based"
Seriously, through.... why would someone think that these two don't fall into the Debian-based category?
Haha I think I'm going to explode if there is one more typo in this. But yeah, I don't know why people feel that Ubuntu isn't Debian-based - up until recently they featured it as one of their features "building on the stability of Debian" or something, now they still have this page acknowledging that: www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu/ubuntu-and-debian

I'm actually surprised Desura is high as it is!
It is, but I am almost certain this will go down next month now that the questions are time-specific. These results will include many people who bought from there "at some point" (though the results are still higher than I expected even for that)

Another interesting question is how many 32bit gamers are still out there
Yeah that's a good point!

just filled out the new survey, I agree with what WorMzy said about graphics drivers, I ticked the "Updated - proprietary (eg. xorg-edgers)", but really I maintain my Nvidia proprietary drivers myself, ie. I download the .run right from Nvidia's website and manually install so no repos involved.
Well that still counts as an "updated driver" in that case. The xorg repo is just one example of how you can have more bleeding edge drivers.
